Heading to the Rochester Red Wings game tonight and caught this blurb on their site:

NOTES: Minnesota traded OF/1B Doug Deeds to the Chicago Cubs organization Thursday, as the player to be named later in the trade that brought Craig Monroe from the Cubs to the Twins...

The Twins have a solid farm system, so who knows

if it looks like organizational filler and smells like organizational filler...

I much rather have seen Tim Lahey as the ptbnl after he cleared waivers. This Mr. Deeds (yes, I play off the movie) is nothing more then an organizational player.

Well duh. If he ever sees an AB for the Cubs I'd be stunned. But we traded Craig Monroe for him so.

oh yeah, anything more than a cheese sandwich for craig monroe and you've made out like a bandit.

Yep; a cheese bandit.

If we're all taking turns making comps, I say Brant Brown.

Well, how much could we expect for Craig Monroe? Not bad though. Would be a decent call up in case of inujury.

Agreed

Or Travis Lee. Or Scotty Thurman. Or Josh Kroeger. But hey that Iowa team should be a pretty decent team.

Who was the PTBNL we ultimately sent to the Tigers for Monroe? Or did we just settle up for additional cash?

If we turn around and trade Deeds for anything close to what Jon Lieber was, I think he's a good acquisition.

I still remember Baylor snickering - literally snickering - about the Lieber for Brown trade.

I like this deal. For a PTBNL-calibre player, Deeds is about as good as it gets.

Wasn't it Clay Rapada?

Yep...

So I believe all the "ptbnl" the Cubs had outstanding, are now completed. (The Cubs recieved cash to complete the Izturis trade, and Deeds for Monroe.)

Which Baylor? I'm a little confused. If you are talking about Don, it doesn't make sense to me because Lieber was already with the Cubs a year before Baylor was the manager.

Why would that prevent Baylor from gloating about the trade? He directly benefitted from it - it's not like the trade was 20 years ago.

His OBP looks really solid and hes got a touch of power. However he is 26 already. Not bad.

Not that he'll ever play w/ the big club, but if he's already 26, at least that means he isn't yet another young player the Cubs will develop improperly.

I just can't picture a scenario in which Don Baylor would have a chance to snicker about a trade that took place such a long time before he was hired as manager. Was a reporter like, "Mr Bayor, well before you managed this team, Jon Lieber was acquired for Brant Brown. Do you care to comment on that trade?"

I'm not implying that you are lying or anything, I just was hoping you could clarify the situation for me.
