I think he was starting early season last year in the minors. Not sure though.

 

Either way, he shouldn't be in danger of overuse with this outing. I might consider another day off in the next couple if we can afford it, though.

50 pitches over 4 days isn't a lot. Not even close. Not to me at least.

Yeah, so it's been a year and a half since he's started. Maybe it's not a lot to you but apparently it is to him. And if we're already using him this much -it could quickly lead to serious over use over the course of the season. And I'm pretty sure he threw more than 50 pitches in those four days.

He's pitched in 6 out of the teams first 8 games. That projects to 121 appearances. Plus he pitches more than 1 inning at times. That is too much. I don't think it's going to keep up, but having concern is valid when you take into consideration how often he was used last year by Lou. Pitching that much will have bad consequences. And the fact that he used to be a starter is pretty irrelevant, because just about all relief pitchers were once starters in the minors.

 

Hopefully we start blowing some teams out so we don't have to use Marmol 3 out of every 4 games.
