Per The Score.

If this is true, it shows Kenny Williams is stupid because they just gave him $4MM this offseason.

edit: now they're saying they never put him on the list.

Maybe the Sox made a trade and are dumping Uribe because of it?

Maybe they traded for Brian Roberts.

That's what I was thinking.

White Sox Waive Uribe?

According to George Ofman WSCR 670 The Score out of Chicago, the White Sox are expected to place infielder Juan Uribe on outright waivers. Ofman cautioned that this rumor is unconfirmed by the White Sox. I believe this would give any team a chance to claim Uribe by taking on his $4.5MM salary.

The one team I've seen linked to Uribe is the Orioles, who currently have a need at shortstop and may have one at second if they trade Brian Roberts.

I kinda of doubt that, because they don't have the prospects (or do they have any prospects at all) to pull of a Roberts trade. My guess is any trade between the WS/O's would start off with either Poreda or Broadway (or knowing the O's prolly both), prolly would have to include Richar, and maybe either Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, or Jerry Owens. And knowing Williams, he prolly would offer 3/4 of those players for Roberts.

My guess is...the White Sox releasing Uribe, has no direct ties to the White Sox trying to acquire Roberts. I think it is just to open up 2b for Ramirez and Richar.

Taking on his $4.5MM salary is the key phrase here. Any team that would take on a player the calibur of Uribe for $4.5MM isnt thinking stright, especially if its one in a major rebuilding phase.

Yea, I was joking. I know it wasn't obvious though, so, my bad.

Imagine the meltdown on nsbb if the White Sox acquired Roberts for a couple low level prospects when we've been offering them a ton more than that for months.

Hey, don't laugh. Remember the Gasol trade a few weeks ago? Hell yeah. Grizzlies got about half the value we were offering all along, and would have offered again if they had only asked.

Over at the Orioles Hangout, they had discussed trading Payton (if he didn't come to the Cubs) for Uribe. I think Payton makes app. $5 million, so it would come out about even salary wise.

Paxson commented on that the other day.

He called. They wanted expirings. We didn't have expirings.

Didn't Sweeney go to Oakland in the Swisher deal?

[off topic Reinsdorf Rant]

I find it funny that Rein$sdorf has no problem eating this salary, provided no one claimes Uribe, yet last week mentioned Scott Skiles salary still on the books as a factor for hiring the next Bulls head coach. The man is a plague
