Kenney can't mention names because that's tampering.

If the Cubs can trade Cedeno, Pie, Marshall, Gallagher, Murton, Marquis, Ceda and Fontenot and get Crisp and Roberts-I'm satisfied.

you'd be satisfied trading 7 players off the 40 man for 2? think about that

You bet..You acquire Roberts and Fontenot and Cedeno are expendable. You acquire Crisp-where are Pie and Murton gonna play? Marshall is 5-7 starter now. Marquis has been on the market for months. Ceda and Gallagher are 3A pitchers this season anyway, because Hendry was silly and signed Lieber and Wood.

so who are you going to use to fill those other 5 roster spots?

According to a Orioles writer last night, the Cubs may also have to take Jay Payton in any Roberts deal.

Re-signing Kerry Wood is always a mistake. His last two innings have proven he will always be a thrower and never a pitcher. Nice WHIP, though!

So you add Crisp, Roberts and possibly Payton. Patterson is a possibility but I think he needs to play more in the minors. Lahey or Ascanio probably makes it as the last RH in the pen. LH relief is Eyre and either Cotts(yuck!) or Pignatiello(yuck!). Unless we acquire someone, our options are few.

Hart is my first call-up. I sure wish Petrick would take a step up this year and be ready also by midyear. No thunder on the bench, unless Jake Fox matures as a hitter and I never want to see Ward in the OF.

W/e on the bolded part! That's just plain wrong.

Crisp and Payton just aren't very good players. So why go after them? Pie has more upside then either one of them.

To be completely honest, I understand the Roberts deal as improving the club because DeRo would then be the "supersub" and effectively upgrade our bench, but also get starter ABs. It doesn't improve the pressing need at SS, but considering there isn't really anyone available that we know of I suppose Roberts is the best deal available.

The only other area would be a top of the rotation pitcher. I think our rotation is decent, but if there was one area I might clean up it would be another #1 or #2. I would look into that before CF.

Who is Crane Kenney?

Craig Kenney is the head of the Cubs business operations. He and Hendry are the two heads of the club right now, with Kenney handling the business side and Hendry handling the baseball side.

Crane Kenney is the Chairman of the Cubs/Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Tribune. The Executive VP of Business Operation and #2 in charge is Mark McGuire. Bottom line...Kenney is not running the business side of things because he hasn't been in the business long enough to understand it all. He is a figurehead and McGuire who has been with the Cubs since Tribune purchased the ballclub runs these matters.

Could the other deal be Michael Young? He is as high profiled as Roberts is and would be a great SS addition for us. Plus the Rangers aren't going anywhere this year and might wanna take some prospects back. Maybe something like Gallagher, Ceda, Cedeno, and Fontenot for Roberts and Marshall, Veal, Patterson, and Colvin for Young. Imagine a lineup of:

1) Roberts 2B

2) Young SS

3) Lee 1B

4) Soriano LF

5) Aramis 3B

6) Fukudome RF

7) Soto C

8) Pie CF

Our team would be stacked!

I don't think the Rangers are in any hurry to give up Young, and unfortunately, I don't think the Cubs see SS as a position of need.

Eh, Young is very mediocre away from home:

AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS (Career)

.282/.324/.410/.734

By comparison:

.266/.326/.346/.672

That's what theriot put up last year. I don't think it's worth the ridiculous price he would probably require.

it is too bad...i don't know where else the cubs could actually trade for a SS, if they were even looking...

i still think we should try to pull something off with boston for lowrie

Lowrie's more 2B than SS.

So is Theriot.

The Braves. They have a history of unloading prospects that are blocked, and no one expects Lillibridge to beat out Escobar for the SS job.

Well there have been talks of either moving Escobar or Lillbridge to 2b. And there were talk of moving Kelly Johnson (the Braves version of Eric Patterson, IMO) back to CF, before they acquired Mark Kotsay. My guess is....the Braves will hold onto Lillbridge/Escobar, and move Johnson at some point this season. Unless the Braves get an offer they can't refused for Lillbridge.
