There's also a Best Western about a mile from the park as well. I stayed at the City Suites on Belmont which is closer than the Days Inn. It was nice, but the rooms were small. However, they have significantly raised their rates since last summer.

I saw some rooms by O'hare that weren't so expensive. Well some people say the area around Midway is iffy. While others say it's just fine. How about the area around O'Hare. Could a person get back there, by train late at night. Or would it be kind of unsafe to do such a thing.

I'm not as familiar with Midway as some, I was there Sunday, but I wouldn't stay there. I don't know what it's like S, E, or W of Midway as I always come in from the N. off of I-55. But, if the entire area is similar as the stretch off of Cicero Ave. from Midway to I-55, then I definitely would not stay near there, but that's only opinion.

How much you looking to spend per night on a room?

I just booked a room through priceline for ~$100/night. Got the Holiday Inn at the Merchandise Mart. I thought I struck out, but I read some reviews on Trip Advisor and apparently it's not half bad. More than one person said it has some of the best views around. It's right on the brown line, so getting to Wrigley will be just a matter of making one train switch. Take the brown line to destinations near the mag mile, probably a 5 min train ride to get to the dwntwn action.

I'm happy.

looks like the name has changed cause i think it was a wyndham last year when i was there, but HERE is a link to hotels.com's info.

they have a complimentary shuttle if you don't wanna walk to the station, which is actually a bit more than a block, but i never bothered using it.

The Red Roof Inn on Ontario St. in the River North area is a good place to stay for the price. You're right around Michigan Ave. with good access to the CTA. I've always stayed there for $120-130 a night. The rooms are small but its always been clean for me.

Thanks Wekse, I'm actually staying at this place called Spring Hill Suites by Marriott which is a block away. I called them and they said the Blue line was a 10 minute walk. Your hotel was 127 for those days while the one I'm staying at is 109. Sucks I'm not staying right in Chicago but this will have to do. At least I don't have to ride a Metra train.

when i go i usually stay at a hotel by o'hare. you get a free shuttle to the el. i didn't mind the commute because i always get to wrigley super early to hang out in the neighborhood, and i'm never in a rush to leave wrigleyville after the game ends, so the commute isn't that much of a pain for me.

Yes and yes.

I usually send the wife and kiddos back in a taxi, and I have been succesful in getting back out there alive on trains and buses.

As I said earlier, don't be afraid of Priceline. If you don't get the price you want it doesn't cost you anything but a few moments of your time.

So a couple of buddies and I are heading out to Chi-town for a weekend series and are looking for a cheap place to stay where we can easily get to the El...

anyone got any suggestions that can help a (poor) cubs fan out?

Here's a tip: don't call Chicago Chi-town- ever.

Isn't there already a thread like this stickied somewhere? If not there should be as I'm guessing this is something a lot of people want to know.

As far as Midway goes, I know there are a bunch of decent-looking hotels just south of the airport, less than a mile. That hotel area is recently built up, but the surrounding area isn't exactly the most pleasant area. Never actually stayed at the hotels, though (seeing as I live about 10 miles south of the airport, it'd be a pointless exercise).

I have never had a case where a hotel didn't roughly match the star-level they have listed. That's really the important thing for me: is the place clean and quiet? Does it have the stuff that most 3 star hotels, or most 4 star hotels have? As far as location, I can usually make do being a few blocks away from ideal here & there.

I will admit though, I always go to Trip Advisor after I find out which hotel accepted my bid so I can see what I've just gotten myself into. 8-)

I have stayed out in Oak Brook before, and I stayed at O'hare once. With Chicago's transit system, you can usually make most locations work for you. I did have a problem last year though, I stayed in Evanston and waited like an hour in 95 degree heat for a Pace bus. Never again.

Does anyone know roughly how long of an El ride it is from Midway to the Ambassador East? Also, any advice for good bars within walking distance would be appreciated (I'm aware that the Pump Room is in the hotel). I'll be staying there on a Thursday night, if that helps.

One other question... how long of an El ride is it from that hotel to O'Hare? I'll be flying into Midway, but out of O'Hare. Thank you.
