Reds fans have to love this.

Dusty Baker was talking about the importance of a leadoff man.

“Everybody needs a leadoff hitter,” Baker said. “I think that is the most unappreciated, hardest to find quality position in baseball.”

That in itself may not be all that bad....but then where is he looking to find one?

To that end, Baker has talked to Kenny Lofton and Corey Patterson. Could either end up in Reds camp?

"There's a chance," Baker said. "They're out there looking for jobs. You want to get right pieces of the puzzle."

Oh please let that happen. Sit Jay Bruce so that Corey Patterson can hit lead-off for the Reds.

I love me some Dusty Baker!!!!

And then this quote about Bruce.

"I haven't seen Bruce play," Baker said. "You see Junior (Griffey) who came at 19. Corey Patterson was rushed a bit and didn't get time to mature. It's kind of like raising your kid: You don't know if you did the right it until later. . . it's something that is very hard to judge. When is now? It's not secret Bruce is a star of futrue. Who knows he could be a star of the present. I'm very impressed talking to him."

Every team should have the opportunity to bat Corey Patterson and Neifi Perez at the top of their order for half a season.

It's an amazing experience.

A Neifi Perez signing cannot be far behind.

Probably midseason. He can't "Save" the Reds if he's with them for a whole season.

yeah...him & I & all of major league baseball through the years. I wonder who is right between them & a handful of message board posters. Tough call.

What does this even mean?

COREY FREAKING PATTERSON

How can you defend that?

Yeah, because conventional thinking always holds true over time... Many times, it is those within the insitution that needs change that realize is last.

Come one. Even you have a better understanding and appreciation of OBP than Dusty Baker had.

Batting Corey Patterson at the top of the batting order= very bad

Batting Neifi Perez at the top of the batting order= very bad

Almost all of Major League Baseball thought for years that the home run was a "fad" and hitting a bunch of them was basically unsportsmanlike.

Almost all of Major League Baseball still thinks the save is an awesome stat.

I can trump that.

The Cy Young is mostly hinged on a pitcher's W-L record.

Pitcher's W-L is one of the dumbest stats ever created in any sport.

What? It's a pitcher's job to win ballgames.

Yeah, I'm kidding.

Pitcher A: 10-11 2.23 ERA 1.01 WHIP

Pitcher B: 17-8 4.25 ERA 1.33 WHIP

Pitcher B wins Cy Young.

If we accepted conventional thinking as is, the Earth would still be flat, and African Americans would still be going to different schools and restaurants because thats what everyone has believed and that's how everyone has done it throughout the years.

Actually, African Americans would still be possessions in this country. Conventional wisdom is frequently wrong. Tragically so, sometimes.
