ST is a blast to go to, though. And I'm coming from a warm weather place, if you're coming from the cold of the Midwest, I'm sure you'd love it even more.

We're supposed to be going down the last week of March. I'm excited as hell, and it will be a nice change since I walked out of my house this morning into -10 degree temps. I hate winter, but ST makes JAN and FEB worth it.

That's because the Red Sox report 3 hours earlier (time difference between Arizona and Florida).

Whatever, still an east coast bias

To play devil's advocate, the BoSox are in camp early because they have games that count early. They play 2 in Japan on the 25th of March, so they need to be ready to go soon.

Three Chicago Cubs players were victims of a burglary suspect who is accused of stealing from several Mesa businesses over almost a four month span, police said.

Todd Robert Smith, 44, was arrested Saturday and accused of taking items from a number of locations including the Chicago Cubs training facility at 160 E. 6th Place, according to a police report.

The Cub players were pitcher Jeff Samardzija, catcher Jake Fox and outfielder Tyler Colvin. Police said all three players had personal items stolen, which included checkbooks, cell phones and credit cards

Smith allegedly used Samardzija's credit card at a nearby Wal-Mart.

This genius picked Jeff Samardzija's credit card to use at Walmart? Haha, while he may not be the most famous man on the planet, he's easily the most well known out of the three victims because of his Notre Dame football days. If he gets a cashier that happens to be any sort of sports fan, they'd probably know he wasn't really Samardzija.

After the first week or so Spring Training bores me. It's like I've seen baseball again (which I am excited about) but then I realize these games mean nothing.

I believe in the Church of Baseball. I've tried all the major religions, and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I heard that, I gave Jesus a chance. But it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me. I prefer metaphysics to theology. You see, there's no guilt in baseball, and it's never boring... which makes it like sex. There's never been a ballplayer slept with me who didn't have the best year of his career. Making love is like hitting a baseball: you just gotta relax and concentrate. Besides, I'd never sleep with a player hitting under .250... not unless he had a lot of RBIs and was a great glove man up the middle. You see, there's a certain amount of life wisdom I give these boys. I can expand their minds. Sometimes when I've got a ballplayer alone, I'll just read Emily Dickinson or Walt Whitman to him, and the guys are so sweet, they always stay and listen. 'Course, a guy'll listen to anything if he thinks it's foreplay. I make them feel confident, and they make me feel safe, and pretty. 'Course, what I give them lasts a lifetime; what they give me lasts 142 games. Sometimes it seems like a bad trade. But bad trades are part of baseball - now who can forget Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, for God's sake? It's a long season and you gotta trust. I've tried 'em all, I really have, and the only church that truly feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the Church of Baseball.

--Poor Annie. She must be confused. Jesus doesn't lay guilt trips on anyone...that must have been the devil she was referring to. Now the devil, likes to lay a lot of guilt on everybody.

Even if they didn't know him, the fact that it took him 10 minutes to try to remember how to spell Samardzija in the signature would be a dead give away.

hopefully we'll start getting pictures soon...not much so far, for sure.

We leave for AZ in 3 weeks (not that I'm counting). As far as places to stay in the area, we've stayed at both Hiltons near by, and they were both great. The Hilton Phoenix East / Mesa had a facelift in the offseason, so we'll see how much better it is. The other Hilton is darn near to ASU and the airport, so it's a bit dependent on what you're there for. I believe there's also a Marriott that's pretty near to Fitch / HoHoKam. On the less expensive side, most of the minor leaguers get put up at the Mezona Inn - it used to be a Best Western, but not sure if it is any more or not.

For those that will be in Mesa around a meal time, I'd highly suggest Cindy's Cafe (north? of HoHoKam, on McKellips) - she makes everything fresh and you can get anything from a nice chef salad to open-faced roast beef. Oh, and there's pie. Really good pie. There's also a Basha's grocery store just south of the Fitch complex (off of Brown) - I much prefer to stop in every morning and buy some yogurt and juice for breakfast. Do others have favorite hangouts when at ST?

Dodgers, Astros and a lot more Red Sox photos are up too. Still no sign of the Cubs. I wonder what the hell they are doing?

I hope they aren't busy reading the Brian Roberts' thread. We won't see pics for at least three more days if that's the case.

I'm debating whether he's trying to go for the professorial look or the investment banker look.

In either case, Da Farns will layeth the smacketh down on any jabroni who gets in his way!
