Guys, you didn't even look at the fine print of the contract. He signed as a towel boy.

GET IT? TOWEL.

HAHAHA!

Mark Prior THROWS TOWELS! In Simulated Games!!

Posted
How big of a contract does he think he's going to get after pitching (at most) 2-3 months? He's still going to be a huge risk, regardless of what he does in '08.

AJ Burnett. and his contract was before the ridiculous contract boom of the last two years.

People can believe whatever they want to think but I think it's pretty clear that it didn't matter what the Cubs did, Prior wanted out of Chicago. A million dollar contract with incentives pushing it up over 3 mil? Are you kidding me? I KNOW the Cubs offered much more than that. Just think Mark, when the Cubs win the World Series (and they will), you wont be part of the team. Kerry Wood will ---but you wont. Heck, Prior wont even pitch in 2008...maybe Sept. if he's lucky.

The Cubs offered a one-year deal with a team option for a second year. If I were Prior, I would have turned down that offer, too.

"Prior signed a one-year deal with the Padres on Wednesday for $1 million with another $4.5 million in incentives as he attempts to rebuild his credentials as a Major League pitcher and tries to repair his oft-injured image... Prior and his San Diego-based agent, John Boggs, rebuffed multiyear offers and even offers for larger base pay to accept a one-year deal to play for his hometown team".

In the article, Prior and the Padres think he'll be back by mid-May. yeah right! There's no way that will happen. Maybe September if he's lucky.

---- I still belive that the Cubs did all they could do, to keep Prior in Chicago. The article makes it clear that Prior all along intended to wind up in San Diego.

The only people dumber than baseball front office types are baseball players.

Ironically accurate

THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES!!?!?! yesss

Yesss indeed.

Oh, and Prior probably isn't even close to flipping off the camera in that picture, just a bad angle in the middle of a common hand gesture (not the finger). Although I see thousands of fans getting irate over it in the future

Um, all they needed to do was tender him a contract. They absolutely did not do everything they could. The fact of the matter is the cubs had the final say and they said "good bye".

Why in the world would they have tendered him a contract? Especially considering that the best deal he could get on the free agent market was a $1MM guaranteed deal for 1 year. Something in his medical records was scaring other teams away.

The report said he turned down multi year offers with bigger base salaries. My whole interpretation of it is that he thinks he can come back strong, and knows that if he does, he can go out into free agency and make a killing next season, and if not, he can still ride the coat tails of his 2003 season into a smaller multimillion dollar contract if he wants to

I wasn't passing judgement on the decision at all. Just contradicting the opinion that the cubs did all they could do with the FACT that they absolutely didn't.

That and it would be stupid for the Cubs to waste another year on him when they would not be guaranteed the year after. They wanted 1yr+1option year, but Prior wasn't going to except, and from the evidence shown in other threads, was not going to resign in Chicago after this year, so there was no reason to give a $3.2M/1 yr contract to somebody who is probably going to be out for the first 1/3 of the season, and who knows how he will do after that.

Easy there killer... I don't get why so many people take it to heart because you don't like a player..It's not like it's your family member or someone you know..There's probabaly tons of players I like that get ripped on all the time..I could care less..It's your choice..This already reminds me of the Murton thing all over again when you would think Murton is some of these guys relatives..Get over it..No one is going to like the samething as everyone else..Even if their is negativity towards the player..There's no reason to say things like that towards someone over a freakin ballplayer..
