Looking for a silver lining, now that it's out in the open, maybe Pujols and LaRussa can save money and the environment by carpooling to their substance abuse counselor.

so far the couple of Cardinal fans I talked to are in denial that Pujols juiced, it's kind of funny.

Did they use their usual "vast East Coast Conspiracy against the Cardinals" angle?

The Red Bird fans I talked to said the report can't be credible if it names Pujols but not D. Lee or ARam.

I'm still hoping that Wood's not on it....waiting to see the confirmed, published list.

I am happy that no other current Cubs are on it. If Roberts is on the final list, I don't think we should trade for him.

Hmmm...that big list you guys posted...is that steroids or amphetamines or both? Because Neifi is on that list...I thought he was busted for amphetamines. I can't fathom that he was on steroids...

Why?

I don't get the assumption that steroids make you good. They make you capable of building body mass (muscle) faster than you would before. They don't increase your ability to see the ball, or your hand-eye coordination. They make your body grow.

And for that matter - someone said earlier that roids dont make you fat (in connection to kerry Wood) and I disagree with that. When I was younger I had to take some medicine for my asthma that had some kind of steroid in it and I shot up in weight really quickly. Granted - The roids these guys were taking probably only affected muscles - but I'm no doctor and I don't know exactly how roids work.

On the assumption that steroids make you good- you get stronger. Being stronger helps in just about any sport.

True, but you have to be able to hit the ball first. Neifi wasn't too good at that.

Think how bad he would have been without the help.

Seriously.

wow...is there a bigger D-Bag on Chicago radio then Mike Murphy.."How should the 2003 Cubs be viewed now that Wood and Prior and Sosa are on this list?"

umm you freakin idiot...they played against competition that is also on this list.

Are you surprised? What kind of questions do you think they are going to talk about on sports talk radio?

wow..there are alot of "smaller" guys on this list..they must have not cycled them properly.

Who says they took the big 'bulk up your muscles' style steroids? Don't runners sometimes take roids to make themselves be able to grow leg muscle and run faster? They never bulk up too big. Again - I could be wrong. But it seems to me that the assumption that Roids = Big Bulky Superhuman Athlete is kinda silly.

Yeah, there are leaner mass roids...but there are guys that took them, and there production was still terrible. Neifi Perez? LMAO.

This is true, but like I said before. Steroids don't help your hand/eye coordination and they don't help you have the natural ability to hit a 90MPH fastball.

Neifi just wasn't good at hitting the ball. Also, who says steroids DIDNT make neifi a lot better. Just imagine how bad he might have been if he DIDN'T take steroids.

Assuming the list to be accurate (which even if accurate, is inaccurate), I am curious how many of the pitchers on that list took them to recover more quickly from injury and/or surgery. Seemed kind of odd that players had more recently been able to recover magically quicker from TJS than they had been before.

Even if that's why they did take it for injury recovery, does that make it less of a baseball sin? I don't care why they took it. It helped them "perform"...whether it was for strength or for injury recovery.

Steroids wouldn't help you hit the ball a whole lot better. You either are good or you suck. Just ask Neifi. But they can allow you improve your stamina and move faster. For a pathetic slappy hitter it could be huge. The difference between legging out a hit or sitting down.

I mean, in 2000 (admittingly in Colorado) Neifi Perez put up a .741 OPS and fielded so well he got the gold glove. I'm guessing that Neifi was the one that had discovered steroids. Along with greenies. And who knows what else.

Probably a good guess that 2006 .576 OPS Neifi was off the juice and trying to stay off of speed enough to not get caught. Lol.

Poor Neifi

I think it's a lesser evil, personally. I can understand doing whatever it takes to be able to get back to your previous levels when they have been unfairly ripped away from you do to some freak occurance. Creating a new level for yourself at the expense of others is a bit more selfish.

No, it doesn't make it less of a baseball sin. I just think it would explain a lot about the drastic reduction in recovery time for serious surgeries. Although, I would then have expected Carpenter on the list as well if that were the case.

By the way, I would like to repeat the more important queastion for this thread that I mentioned earlier but seemed to have fallen through the cracks.

What in the blue hell did John Kruk tip some guy in Philly $14,000 dollars for?

I hate the Cardinals as much as anyone else with opposable digits. However, I am dissappointed to see Poo-holes name on there. I am not sure why. I know I have issues, but it is just kinda weird.

But they can help you hit a ball further.

The rest of your post I agree with.

Player A and Player B both get hurt. Player A uses an illegal substance to recover more quickly. Player B uses standard medical practices to recover. Player A recovers 6 months more quickly (completely arbitrary number).

I don't see how this is different from one guy juicing for strength and another one not....

Sorry if this question has already been asked:

Would players who had bonuses written into their contracts for winning MVP awards, and who finished in 2nd place to a player named on this list have any legal standing against that player to recoup what could now be considered monetary damages?

No doubt. I think they probably could make the average above average and the above average into stars. Maybe just for a year or two. I'm sure there were times when it was nowhere near even. One team going all WWE on the division and the rest not quite getting it yet.

I just think people have too much of a "HULK UP" fantasy about 'roids. Just ask Chris Masters if shoving a bunch of anabolic steroids in your body makes you good at what you do...

Probably not. I'm no lawyer, but I did stay at a Holliday Inn express last night.

And by Dress for Success, we mean the codeword for a beautiful Czechoslovakian blond who really really needs $3,000...a pop...

I doubt there will be any sort of baseball-related penalty for anyone on the list, considering that the report is based on a time when there was no penalty for steroid use in baseball.

i'm already so sick of all the former player/GM types on ESPN apologizing for the use of steroids. there is zero anger over this from this network
