Cardinals released outfielder So Taguchi.

 

The team previously declined Taguchi's $1.1 million option, though that didn't technically make him a free agent. He will be one if he clears release waivers. By making the move now, the Cardinals have a spot open for Thursday's Rule 5 draft.

 

Edit: He's not a lefty, so we don't have to worry about Jim signing him.
