We need a backup CF, whether he's left handed or not, and McLouth for someone like Cotts wouldn't bother me at all. Cotts is definitely a spare part after the Ascanio acquisition.

Did Cotts turn it around at Iowa or did he continue to be wild?

getting mclouth for cotts would be getting something for nothing, the hendry bashing gets a little too outta control in nsbbland

I think this is true for any fans for their GM.

We need a backup CF, whether he's left handed or not, and getting a 26 year old with a $390k salary coming off a .810 OPS season for a spare reliever part (especially after the Ascaino aquisition) would be a pretty nice deal in the current free agent market.

I think Cotts was a spare part before that trade.

Can we at least wait until this deal is complete before we crown him as our savior?

There is zero chance that the Cubs can get Nate McLouth for Neal Cotts.

Sure, but it's certainly not too soon to proclaim he's going to be more valued in the organization than Pie.

So, what you're saying here is that there will not be a trade? :P

I agree, this sounds to good to be true. Whats McLouth really worth anyway? Gallagher? Marshall?

Deal something less valuable than Marshall for McLouth, sign Fukudome, then make a run at somebody like Lincecum with Pie+Marshall? McLouth and Murton could platoon, or either could play full time if they break out, with Fukudome's position depending on which one that is.

I was wondering what the Pirates could possibly be thinking. McLouth is cheap and gives a little production. The only thing that they could possibly hope for in Cotts is that he returns to his 2005 form and they trade him for a younger prospect.

If the Cubs got Tim Lincecum for Felix Pie and anyone else in the system (not named Zambrano, Soriano, Lee, or Ramirez), I would drive to Nashville and kiss Jim Hendry's rear end.

My Giant fan brother says that in the Bay Area they are talking about trading Lincecum before he throws his arm off. Thats why he is available.

PMR says he's not a very good defensive CF. As to why the Pirates would deal him, maybe they want to fast track McCutchen, I dunno.

That seems to be their MO, doesn't it. I fail to undertand why they continue to rush their guys to the bigs when they won't be able to afford them once they are really good and productive. Maybe the new GM will change that.

it took me forever to make those stupid stat boxes so i'll thank you kindly to not quote them and make them screwed up

i understand that they'd want to deal him, i just have no idea why neal cotts as a centerpiece would enter into the conversation.

My money is on Marshall being traded for Mclouth.

I'm only 1/2 surprised to see this. We do need relief pitching, and, with the exception of some starting pitching, no one is untouchable. We have plenty of outfielders. McClouth was going to fight Morgan for playing time. He's certainly expendable, especially if Pearce makes the team.

I'd hope we could get a bit more than Cotts for him, though.

Relief Pitching for McClouth? Yes!

But, Major league Relief Pitching. We have enough AAAA releief Pitchers on the team already.

Hard to tell since it's new management. But the old Pirates regime certainly would be pushing him aside for Chris Duffy.

They have enough lefty junkballers. Murton might be their kind of guy. They have a progressive GM.

Yeah, you're probably right if that's the case.

The Pirates sure seemed enamored with Nyjer Morgan. And he fits that "prototypical lead off hitter" mentality GM's all over MLB seem to love.

I'd say it's more curious than enamored. He's going to be given a shot, but he's not guaranteed a job. And, if McClouth is not traded, he'll be pushing him for that same job.

Yeah, it appears like the consensus is when rather than if Lincecum will have major arm problems because of his motion.
