Did hendry HONESTLY say that it would be easier if he were right handed or is that just a rotoworld smartass answer?

Because if he really said that then I vote we burn him at the stake. Literally.

From Sullivan's article today:

"We still like Murton," Hendry said. "We think Murt's an everyday big-leaguer. He knows we all like him. Life would be a lot easier if Murton were left-handed."

Wow, is that a dumb thing to say aloud.

Yeah, I really cannot believe he said that. Someone should fact check - I am betting it's a joke.

BTW, love your sig, Roast.

Would Hendry accept a right-handed hitter in a trade?

"Depends on the guy," he said. "In a perfect world, I think we're going to try to center on a left-handed bat in the outfield."

Does that player have to be a power hitter?

"Nah, not at all," Hendry said. "We [want] the best player. If he hits left-handed and hits for a higher average, I'm fine with that."

With the departure of left-handed hitters Jacque Jones and Cliff Floyd, and with Alfonso Soriano in left field and presumably Felix Pie in center, the question is what happens to Matt Murton.

"We still like Murton," Hendry said. "We think Murt's an everyday big-leaguer. He knows we all like him. Life would be a lot easier if Murton were left-handed."

Obviously, that means Murton is available for trade.

This is the quote from the tribune article in question. He said it. Bruce Miles has an article in which he talks about the LH hitting RF. He doesn't include this specific quote, but you get a similar tone.

"We need to find somebody who can play well in right and hit left-handed," Hendry reiterated.

Good hitters are good hitters, regardless of whether they hit from the left or right side, but the Cubs are fixated on a lefty to go along with right-handed sluggers Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano. Hendry brushed off a question of whether his target could be right-handed.

"Depends who I got," he said. "I've never seen anybody play better than (Willie) Mays. If somebody like that was available, I'd have to think about it."

Hendry then turned from flippant to serious.

"I think in a perfect world, we're going to try to center on adding a left-handed bat in the outfield," he said. "Great players hit right-handed pitching who are right-handed. Our whole club, and even the people we know are going to play, like (catcher Geovany) Soto and (Ryan) Theriot coming back and DeRo (Mark DeRosa), and all three of our marquee guys are right-handed. So you'd love to get another lefty."

Hendry added the Cubs "still like" right-handed hitting outfielder Matt Murton, but he appears to be a last-resort option at best.

I believe the article was written by Dave van Dyck.

So Hendry would have to "think" about getting someone like Willie Mays ? What the hell would there be to think about. GET THIS GUY OUT OF CHICAGO!

Wow. That's just a random and stupid thing to say.

But it reveals how Hendry's brain works....He fixates on a type of player that he is convinced will be the answer to all of the teams problems, instead of just getting the best player available.

It's sad to know that Hendry would pass on a lineup that looks like this:

Hanley Ramirez - SS

Placido Palanco- 2b

Albert Pujols - 1b

Alex Rodriguez- 3b

Magglio Ordonez- RF

Matt Holiday - CF

Vladimir Guerrero - LF

Russell Martin - C

I based this lineup on two things. The players must be right handed hitters only with no switch hitting ability. These are all the top players at their position based off of last seasons VORP (given that they only hit right handed). Hendry would hate this because the team lacks in speed, the defense isn't good enough, and there is no left handed bats. I'm not saying he would dislike the lineup, but I think he would rather have a guy like Pierre in CF to add speed and range in the OF which is a terrible terrible thought.

Um, that team doesn't lack in speed at all.

Hanley - 51 SB

Polanco - 7 SB

Pujols - 2 SB

ARod - 24 SB

Magglio - 4 SB

Holliday - 11 SB

Vlad - 2 SB

Martin - 21 SB

And the only reason Pujols and Vlad had totals that low is because they were dealing with leg injuries all year... Normally Pujols is good for 7-8 steals and Vlad around 15. But even figuring just last year's numbers, it'd be a boost of about 50% in the steal department.

So when Mourton gets traded are all the Murton lovers going to have a candlelight vigil outside of wrigley?

When Shawn Green hits 8 HRs in 500 ABs will you agree that maybe Murton wasn't so bad after all?
