Honest question: Are DBs in college not allowed to make a play on the ball? Sure there was contact, but he was just looking at the ball.

USC taunting again because of a fluke botched lateral that went for 55 yards.

especially pitiful considering they were supposed national championship favorites at the start of the season. but then again they did the same thing against michigan last year, so its not suprising. lose a few games in the regular season, win a meaningless bowl game, act like your king of the world

It's called injuries. USC is healthy now.

usc's not that good. they've gotten the benefit of a bunch of breaks. booty is an average qb. the only player that impresses me is mcknight.

Gimme a break. It's men against boys. Next time send LSU to the Rose Bowl. At least they could keep it competitive.

This game is just further proof why a college playoff is necessary. Let the best teams at the end of the year prove it on the field - just like in basketball.

yes, the Rose Bowl is quite meaningless.

it's just a little less meaningless than the cotton bowl, though.

You know you don't deserve to be in this game so just get over yourself. Plus, I'd rather win the Cotton Bowl than get completely embarrassed in the Rose Bowl. See you in St. Louis.

for which game, the game where the illini blow out a daniel-less tiger team or the annual braggin rights loss?

Why are we Daniel-Less?

And we're talking basketball now? Interesting turn of events.

what? i talked basketball AND football on that one. and i'm refering to daniel coming out early just so he can get drafted in the 5th round.

He said himself there's a 99% chance he's staying. Once again you're mis-informed. Enjoy the loss.

all i have to say is ...its missouri. no one cares, no one will ever care

don't both players have a right to the football when it is in the air? i'm probably wrong, but damn.

no, you're right, they do. that's a no-call. he wasn't trying to make contact, he was going for the ball and the usc player got in the way.

No, that's PI. The DB bumped the receiver and interfered with the receiver's ability to catch the ball. That's what is called pass interference.

nope. that's called incidental contact when both players are going for the ball.

DB bumps WR off his route. The bump prevents WR from catching the ball. That's PI. If it would have been the other way around - USC DB bumping an Illinois WR, you wouldn't be saying anything right now.

the only reason he was bumped is because the illinois player was going for the ball....a bs call that really screwed illinois.

It's still a bump - which you just admitted it was - and the referees are going to call that. Stop talking like Illinois got screwed over. They didn't.

right, he bumped the usc player when making an attempt at catching the ball...completely legal....where i come from when you don't do something illegal in a football game, you shouldn't be penalized for it.

Was this game more or less of a foregone conclusion beatdown than last year's ND/LSU Sugar Bowl?

I figure my feeling of 'hope for the sake of hope even though we're gonna get killed' for that game was about the same as Illinois's this year.

Bummed a bit about this game. At least back in the '84 Rose Bowl you could've turned the game off after the first quarter. We've given up more than 90 points combined in the last two Rose Bowls we've been in. No one, and I mean no one, thought we'd lose the game strictly due to turnovers. Yeah, SC has more athletes than us, but they forced some turnovers and we made some piss-poor decisions, too.

For those who want to talk crap, go ahead. Just remember, who cares? I mean it's not as if USC or Missouri or anybody else not named Ohio State or LSU will have a chance this year at the national championship. I like our future a lot better now than what I did five to seven years ago. To the Mizzou fans, welcome to playing in a January bowl game.

I think more people though this game was going to be worse than the ND-LSU game last year. I thought LSU would win that game but I didn't think it was going to be as bad as it was.

i know you can say this about a lot of games, but there were a few plays up to this point that went usc's way that were extremely lucky and would have changed the complexion of the game.

i can't wait until booty doesn't get drafted.

he will probably be drafted, given the sad state of NFL Qbs. He will have a very quick stay in the NFL though, maybe he can work construction with Marcus Vick?

I will concede I didn't think USC would be winning with turnovers. Unfortunate for Illinois fans that the receivers keep fumbling in USC territory.

I had the game on mute, was that a little kid or a mentally impaired person on the USC sidelines?

Mentally impaired. I think they said he has some kind of bone disease. I think they said he's 18.

that was a cool story. cool to see him getting a lot of attention from the usc fans as well.
