So, BCS picture:

Conference champions:

- Ohio State

- West Virginia

- LSU

- USC

- Virginia Tech

- Oklahoma

At-large possibilities:

- Georgia/Florida

- Kansas/Missouri

- Hawaii

- Arizona State

- Illinois

- Clemson

Basically, 4 spots available for 6 teams. If Georgia and/or Kansas finish in the top 4, they are automatically guaranteed a BCS spot. If Hawaii finishes in the top 12, they are guaranteed a BCS spot.

If I were able to ignore current rankings and start over based on who deserves what, I would probably go like the following:

1. OSU - They were simply the most consistent team this year, and only struggled in 2 games.

2. USC - Also only struggled in 2 games, but happened to lose both.

3. LSU - Lost 2 games in 3 OT each.

4. Oklahoma - Won a tough conference, had 2 serious mental lapses

5. Georgia - Possibly even playing better than LSU right now, but didn't even play in the conference championship

6. West Virginia - Different team without White

7. Missouri - Had a good run, but not better than OK

8. Virginia Tech - Probably the weakest conference champion, blown out by LSU

9. Kansas - Put up some impressive scores on some weak teams, really wish they would've played the stronger B-12 teams.

10. Florida - Impressive offensively, tough schedule, definitely the best of the 3-loss teams.

11. Hawaii - Still undefeated, at least for the next couple hours, only impressive win was against Boise State

12. Arizona State - Tied USC in a very competitive Pac-10, but completely outclassed by USC and looks worse now than earlier in the year

13. Illinois - Hey, they can go to the Rose Bowl! Hard to say they really looked impressive in most of their wins, although it's easy to look impressive against Syracuse, Minnesota and Northwestern. But hey, best win of the whole group by beating OSU in OSU.

14. Clemson - Not even the best team in their own division, here mostly by attrition.

so, if i get this right......

if hawaii continues to suck against uw, the illini are basically in the rose bowl, as i can't see clemson in a bcs game, and i definitely can't see them in the rose bowl.

the rose bowl goes with tradition and the illini play usc.

LSU-USC.....that's what I want to see.

You may get a chance to see them in the Rose Bowl since Ohio State looks to be back in the BCS championship game.

no. LSU will play in the title game or sugar bowl. LSU is the sugar bowl host team - not Georgia. If OSU is #1, Rose would get first choice on a replacement but could not take LSU, Virginia Tech, or Oklahoma.

and if hawaii wins, the sugar bowl chooses between illinois and ASU (pending who ends up #2) - unless the rose chooses illinois.

That would be an even worse Rose Bowl (in terms of the closeness of the game) than last year was.

You want to put a wager on that?

I think you are severely underrating Illinois' speed on offense.

I think that matchup is likely and I'll be there if it happens. I am not sure why you think a team that lost at home to Stanford is invincible though.

especially against a team that beat the probable national champion at their home field.

saw this on the illini scout site:

The Sugar Bowl has first shot at Geogia and they will take them. This is because the Rose Bowl threatened leaving the BCS after 2002 because the Orange Bowl selected Iowa before the Rose Bowl could. The rule was changed. Now the Bowl losing the #1 team can't select a team from the conference of the #2 team, unless the Bowl losing the #2 consents. The Sugar will not consent.

If I was a betting man, I would. But I'm not. If that matchup does happen I'll be sure to make the same prediction it in the BCS thread - probably multiple times - and you can hold me to it and give me all the crap in the world if it doesn't. But there's no doubt in my mind that USC would beat Illinois by more than 14 points if they played. Remember, it is a de facto home game for USC as well.

Because Illinois is from the Big 10 and a Big 10 team cant beat anybody duh

I'm not as confident in Illinois as you guys, but I am not buying that USC is that great either.

Im not either(buying into USC). I really dont think there is alot of difference between the top 15-20 teams this year.

and the illini are bad because i say so, even though i've admittedly never seen them play.

This assumes LSU in the NC?

Is that in the case that LSU goes to the National Title game? Because the SEC has a tie-in with the Sugar Bowl and LSU would automatically go there if they aren't in the title game.

Even if Georgia takes their place, the Sugar Bowl would still take LSU...right?

and the illini play in the rose bowl so everyone's happy.

i can't envision an sec team not playing in the title game.

so the rose would have first choice to choose from:

Missouri

Kansas

West Virginia

Illinois

Arizona State (not likely)

or Hawaii (if they come back)?

I can't see them not taking Illinois from those choices.

So:

NC - OSU - Georgia/LSU (VT?)

Rose- USC - Illinois

Sugar Georgia/LSU - ??

Orange - VT - ??

Fiesta - Oklahoma - ??

I'm sure the orange would love georgia or LSU but won't get a shot at them. Tough choices for the other bowls.

Kansas could be in the top-4 in the final BCS which would mean they get an automatic bid to a BCS bowl and would eliminate Missouri from contention.
