He has a career .312 OBP and had a .291 OBP last year. No thanks.

While he wouldn't do much for OBP problems, he has tremendous power for a SS (27 HRs and a pretty mind-boggling 44 doubles). Plus at 27, he's in his prime.

His .840 OPS away from San Diego would definitely interest me.

how many at bats has pie had?

a little over 100 right?

do you all really want to not see if pie can become something special or at least a significant upgrade at center?

to me, pie for greene is completely mind-numbing...

i wouldn't let pie go this offseason unless it was for something that couldn't be passed up...i don't even know what that is...but jeez...greene?!?

I'd be shocked to see it be a straight 1-1 player trade.

right, but what else could a package be from the padres that would warrant this?

if pie is gone...then we are hanging on to jones...who is a wild-card IMO...

is there a package in their organization that would actually be beneficial to the product most of us fans want to see take the field next season?...ie...one that doesn't bend over in the NLDS?

How about we throw in Theriot and they throw in Matt Antonelli.

how about we throw cedeno out at short stop next season instead of theriot?

i would be willing to bet good money that cedeno would outperform theriot...plus he is a better defender...

oh well...i just am a little sad that it looks like theriot is going to be the starting SS in 08

I don't know their system that well but I assume they might have some other players to offer.

I don't think that's a given. I believe that Hendry is just saying nice things about Theriot and that the Job may still be open in 2008 if no one else is acquired. I agree that Theriot has the edge though.

Didn't Hendry draft Greene originally? I could see a big trade between these two teams. Where's BbB and his SD roots to tell us what the Padres have to offer.

The Padres farm system doesn't have much. Chase Headley looks like the real deal, but he can't play SS. He's blocked at 3b, and the rumor I'm hearing is that they might shift him to 2b going into next year.

I haven't the foggiest clue why San Diego would trade Khalil. They don't have anyone who can play SS. Would I trade Pie straight up for Khalil? Absolutely. Will it happen? No.

Agreed. I would trade Pie for Greene in a heartbeat. OBP isn't what you would like to see, but he has had 2 seasons over .085 BB/PA, which is a solid number. His numbers outside of Petco are very respectable, and I'd imagine playing in Wrigley over Petco 81 times, would make him closer to an .800 OPS. Pie is no guarantee to do that, and he doesn't play a premium position in the Cubs organization.

Are you suggesting CF isn't premium, or that's it's not premium for the Cubs since they have Colvin?

If you count Pie as still being a prospect, then three of the top 10-15 prospects in the system are CF's (including EP). That is in addition to having Jones. And Fuld is a guy who can hopefully give you a couple Bo Hart months if something happens to a regular.

CF is definitely premium, but not as premium as SS. Guys available just this year in CF are Cameron, Hunter, A. Jones, Rowand, Crisp to name the one's off the top of my head. Though they probably aren't labeled true CFers, Johnny Damon, Jacque Jones and Carl Crawford have been mentioned as potential movers.

Greene would be a tremendous upgrade at SS. And there aren't many guys to pick from. I still don't think that deal happens. I think San Diego would want more than the Cubs would be willing to give. In other words, Pie for Greene straight up is probably not happening.

The problem is Colvin hasn't done a thing, EP isn't really a CF, Jones is garbage and hopefully out the door soon, and Fuld is a nobody.

Just because they have other guys who can man the position, you can't take away the fact that Pie does indeed play a premium position, and plays it well. If you are going to trade him, you have to get serious value.
