Nagging injuries also slowed Floyd, who batted .294 in 108 games. Hendry expressed no regrets about trading youngsters Scott Moore and Rocky Cherry to Baltimore for Trachsel, who went 1-3 with an 8.31 ERA after the Aug. 31 trade.

"Steve Trachsel won a huge game for us in Houston," Hendry said, referring to a 6-2 victory Sept. 13 at Houston. "That enabled us to do exactly what we wanted to do: start Carlos Zambrano in the first game (of a key series) at St. Louis."

And that ERA is just sparkling.

And now it comes out that Jake Resnhaw was a part of the deal too.

I guess making the playoffs was a bad thing.

Are you suggesting this trade is the reason the cubs made the playoffs? Because that would be a truly absurd statement.

No. From what I read about the trade is that if the Cubs make the playoffs they (O's) would get an extra player.

Unreal.

Cue the Twilight Zone music, man. Traded 2, 3 players for 1 win and several losses. And that's a GOOD thing.

That one victory was "huge?" How? Houston was already effectively eliminated by then. They were in last place and 11 games back. I fail to see any special significance in that game relative to the other games that Trachsel pitched in, all of which he lost.

What else was he suppose to say? What would be gained by ripping him on the way out?

our love and admiration. duh.

you guys can rip hendry for this but really he traded young crap for old crap. None of these guys had a place in our organization next year. Rocky cherry is 28 and not good enough to crack our roster. Scott moore is a strike out machine and his best position is taken by aramis. Plus he cant hit lefties. Renshaw you could make an argument for but players like him are a dime a dozen. As in, right handers with an era over 4 who are inconsistent. He'll be a decent reliever at best.

I see this as addition by subtraction because it allows us to move some of our younger more talented guys up.

I think we may have given up too much but I can understand the gamble. trachsel was about the only thing out there. he was gone after the season. he had thrown well in his last 2-3 starts. marshall was fading and we could use a vet

now he failed horribly but it was a move that actually made some sense.

he wasn't winning us the WS but he "could" have helped get us to the playoffs, which we needed badly. Now we gave up a lot but hendry has let far too many great prospects rot on the vine and lose any value. so i can not blame him for trying.

now if you would like to talk about the ridiculous statement he made trying to cover his arse...that just makes him sound more stupid!

if i'm the gm, i simply say the truth. we took a shot on a vet that we thought had some upside and it didn't work out....
