According to this, it appears Kuroda may sign before Fukudome.

There was no movement at the Winter Meetings with Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome. His agent, Joe Urbon, also represents pitcher Hiroki Kuroda and is trying to get him signed before addressing Fukudome's situation.

I had almost completely forgotten about Kuroda. Are we even going after him anymore?

How did you "eat" that thing?

it's too big to pick up and you're not allowed to use silverware if you're doing the pub challenge (finish it in an hour), so you just reach in and grab handfuls of whatever, and stuff them in your mouth.

it's 2 lbs of beef plus another 1.5 lbs of bread and fixins... i ate about 70% of it in the hour.

I just want to know, damn it!

i'm not too anxious. i assume that if we sign him, we'll overpay him and he'll turn out to be a bum. if someone else signs him, he'll turn out to be a star.

Where is that Truffle? Some friends and I went to take on a 15 pound burger similar to that a month ago or so. It was awesome and I didn't eat again for a day and a half.

Some chatter on other boards has the padres making two or three of the top offers they have ever handed out. Someone on XM started this rumor I guess.

Somewhat encouraging.

Alderson also confirmed the Padres have made an offer to Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, calling it "one of the two or three biggest offers" in team history.

The Padres' biggest offer ever was $60 million over six seasons to Kevin Brown, who left after San Diego's 1998 World Series season to take the Los Angeles Dodgers' offer of $105 million for seven years, then the biggest deal in baseball history.

"We didn't make a $60 million or a $50 million offer," Alderson said.

Alderson wouldn't be more specific than to say the offer is somewhere between the $30 million given to Brian Giles in December 2005 and the pending $52 million extension for Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy, which will be the biggest deal in team history. Alderson, hired in April 2005, said he wasn't aware that a $34 million extension given to Phil Nevin in November 2001 had been the previous biggest contract in club history.

From this, it doesn't sound like the Padres' offer is a whole lot higher than $10-$11 million a season. The Cubs can outdo that.

It sounds like he's deciding whether to take less money and play on the West Coast or take more money and play for the Cubs.

Let's hope the guy's got a whole gaggle of kids he needs to put through college or some other interest that behooves him to make as much money as possible.

Yeah, it doesn't sound good at all. The reports are making it sound like as long as a west coast team's offer is close to the Cubs offer, he would prefer to play on the west coast.

This is exactly the situation we didn't want.

I don't like the sound of that.

Sweet we arent getting Fukudome and the Bears blow. I hate Chicago stupid sports.

Michigan interviewed Schiano today for the open HC job. Does that help at all?

From that quote, how can you possibly come to the conclusion that he is deciding between taking less money to play on the West Coast, or playing for the Cubs?

Hey! Positive thinking! The guy hasn't signed yet.
