Don't knock on Billy Joe's opinion.

He may be right, you may be crazy.

It just may be a tuna fish you're lookin' for.

Tuna Fish? Am I missing something?

I wouldn't sign Arod, I would think that the 30mil could be better spent on two fifteen million dollar players or three ten million dollar players.

name me the two $15M or three $10M players who will put up the numbers A-Rod has

Do you really think that ARod would put up the same numbers with the Cubs... who is going to get on base in front of him? DLee, that's it.

Wasn't Rob Neyer the writer who said, after his breakout 2004, Jake Westbrook would be out of baseball entirely in 3 years? That doesn't sound like a guy with a clue, if you're pre-free agency and can get ground balls you'll hang around.

It's a joke. The lyrics to the song are "it just may be a lunatic you're lookin' for"

I'm not sure if it was Neyer or not. He's made some mistakes and he's pretty good at owning up to them (see Reyes, Jose).

But if one mistake (or even two) means you don't have a clue, all posters on this board, and about 99% of the people on the planet, are complete morons (myself included). We're sure that's the standard we want to employ?

If you mean, will he match his RBI and R totals? Who knows - those are team dependent. But if you mean, will he hit 40-50 HRs with an OPS of .900-1.000 (probably closer to the higher end) while feasting on the NLC pitching? I'd say it's pretty likely. Even if his D at SS gives up a few runs a year compared to the average guy, his offense more than makes up for it.

Oh, and if signing ARod means Lee moves up to 2nd, it's completely possible that he'd match his RBI totals. If Soriano can bounce back to a .350-ish OBP (not a given by any means) or DeRosa or Murton can lead-off and put up a .350-ish OBP and Lee and his near-.400 OBP hits 2nd, that's a lot of base runners for Mr. Rodriguez in the 3-hole. And with ARam and maybe Soriano hitting behind him, he'll have lots of chances to score 150 runs.

DeRosa

DLee

ARod

ARam

Soriano

Murton

Soto

Pie

You don't think ARod's going to have some R/RBI opportunities in that lineup?

You may be right

I may be crazy

But it just might be a lunatic you're looking for

Turn out the light

Don't try to save me

You may be wrong for all I know

But you may be right

I know the lyrics. I'm just not sure where the "Tuna Fish" comes from. Does Billy Joe Tolliver have something to do with Tuna? I really don't know.

lunatic / tuna fish

Don't go around tonight

Well, it's bound to take your life

There's a bathroom on the right

Thanks Bob. I thought more people would know that joke.

It's like that ole Jimi Hendrix line-

"Excuse me while I kiss this guy"

or Billy Idol's

"Hows about a date" instead of "eyes without a face".

Weren't these all part of a Wayne's World episode from SNL?

Sounds about right. There's long running jokes about Springsteen's "Blinded By the Light".

So I've been away and haven't kept up on the ARod talk around here, but my take on the opt out is that ARod's #1 goal was to get out of NY without making it look like he was desperate to get out of NY. By opting out when he did, he basically didn't give them the chance to look like the spurned hometown team by making an offer he really couldn't justify refusing. ARod was phenomenal as a Yankee, and they all basically crapped on him. The fans, the ownership, the media and even THE CAPTAIN took turns taking swiped at Alex while all he did was produce.

I don't think this was the smartest financial move for Boras to make, but his goal was to get ARod out of NY where his reputation was getting thrashed on a daily basis. The Yankees may be out of the bidding now, but the Mets remain. I don't think he will seriously pursue this option, however, because he'll be dealing with most of the same nonsense.

There's a lot stacked against the Cubs chances to get him, but I'm not going to assume he goes elsewhere until it's all said and done. Boras has been more than willing to wait in the past when getting his guys signed.

I just saw in Rotoworld that the Mets are going after Posada. In concur that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for ARod to switch sides of town. The heat factor could be pretty intense from Yankees fans.

About the only team that makes any sense without any roadblocks is Anaheim. I think the Cubs only roadblock would be ownership. But, the winning bidder for Cubs ownership can probably afford the increased payroll.

Anaheim would definitely be the best place to go if media scrutiny is a concern. Vladdy went there and no one east of the Mississippi cares about him anymore

That's true, he's no longer irritating.

RUMOR!!!!

I didn't even want to start this in a new thread, but this comes from one of my best friends. Again, take this for whatever it's worth. My friend knows this guy that works for a Mortgage Company that told him that AROD is being underwritten for property in Chicago. It's all hush-hush. Again, take this for what it's worth. I know, I know, someone starts one of these rumors every year, but my friend nor his friend are BS'ers.

It could be he's just looking for investment opportunities. I don't know...

Investment, like buying a team and then playing on it?

I wish that were true.

Think about it, though. Why would he possibly need to be underwritten for a loan? Why wouldn't he buy outright?

Because mortgage interest is tax deductible and you can invest the rest making higher returns than the 6% mortgage rate.

And maybe ARod wants to improve his credit rating. You can never have too good of a credit rating. :D

Fair enough. How unique is the name "Alex Rodriguez"?
