Quick question. When are the GM meetings? When and where are the Winter Meetings? I think as soon as the GM meetings are over, we will know where we stand on the Arod situation....at least have a better idea.

Gammons was on Mike and Mike this morning and was still just seething at A-Rod's announcement during the WS. He said the whole A-Rod thing is just despicable. I couldn't help but silently laugh through the whole thing.

FWIW regarding the Marlins suggestion

http://www.miamiherald.com/591/story/292961.html

A-Rod to the Marlins?

Although it's a long shot, don't dismiss him entirely.

Five days after Alex Rodriguez opted out of his contract with the New York Yankees, the top front-office executive for the Marlins did not discount the idea of the Miami native trolling Dolphin Stadium in Florida's uniform next summer.

When asked repeatedly about the chances of A-Rod becoming a Marlin, Larry Beinfest, the team's president of baseball operations, gave his stock reply: ``It's too early to speculate on free agents and trades.''

One thing Beinfest didn't do in Thursday's teleconference with local beat writers: scotch the idea.

Haha. I think that's really overblown. I realize it was bad timing, but I don't think it deserves the hatred it received. I don't think it's a coincidence that it's Boston that is so upset about this, and ESPN's reporters have been the ones almost exclusively ragging on & on about it.

I know a couple days ago Greenie was saying he thought the entire thing was overblown, too. What did he say to Gammons?

I think the fact that Gammons had health issues and the pitcher that won the 4th game came back from cancer had something to do with that. When you have a serious health setback, it changes you emotionally as well as physically.

If Rodriguez was traded to the Red Sox and the Yankees were in the WS this year and Rodriguez announced he would opt out during the World Series, Gammons wouldn't have a problem with it. He'd say something like, "Well you know he has to give his team enough time to have organizational meetings regarding the loss (or potential) loss of Rodriguez. What he did is good for the organization."

True Story.

sounds to me like what the Yanks did to Torre. He set terms he knew the other side would not agree to, allowing him to walk away without seeming like he abandoned them. Coupled with the slight chance of the yanks biting on the deal . . . can't blame a-rod/boras. Solid business move.

i was reading on yahoo that A-Rod's number one choice could be boston...

does that really infuriate anyone else?

hello new yankees

It may be speculation and I think ARod would be crazy to not include the Sox due to their nicely filled wallets.

yes, everything is speculation right now i suppose...but goodness...that team is going to be just plain [expletive] scary if a-rod is stationed at the hot corner come spring...dice-k is most likely going to have a terrific season...the only real question mark with boston right now is the back end of their rotation...

The Red Sox have over $50 million in free agents this year. If they let most of them walk, they have plenty of money for ARod.

That's why we give up our secret plan and send Marquis to the Sox!

At least we can be rest assured that Jimbo won't go after A-Rod because Theriot played well enough to be an "everyday" guy.

He'll be looking for a LH RF with power.

Every year it is some new twist on stupidity with that guy.

good clubhouse guys

guys who can catch

a leadoff hitter

The middle reliever who came off of a career year

The guy with the highest OPS among people with less than a .250 average and who strike out over 100 times a year

The Cubs will never be a serious contender as long as he is the GM.

You must of forgot about 2003, 2004, and 2007. Sure they didn't get it done, but even this year many of the so called experts thought they would do well once they made the playoffs.

I don't necessarily like him but this is the first time that I can remember being a Cub fan and realistically expecting them to go to the playoffs on a semi yearly basis.

Boras and Rodriguez have to realize that ARod is facing a big PR problem.

I would be less shocked if he took a fairly low (for him) contract to prove his critics wrong.

No I didn't forget, they weren't serious contenders in any of those years.

But I guess, it's don't worry be happy!

Didn't ARod have the same PR problems when he was a Free Agent the first time? I remember some really weird clauses in his contract that made him look kind of foolish when he signed with Texas.

I'd think it's worse, now, don't you think?

Yes, by far. I am curious on how much of this is a NY Press thing. They could over blow grass growing.

They are. I read a column in the NYT yesterday intimating that A-Rod really wants to return to the Yankees, becuase, well, they are the Yankees. The NY sports writers know no level of humility.

I don't think it is as bad as the media are portrayiing it. Also Boras is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing, playing bad cop.

I think A-Rod will get what he wants, @ 260million over five or six years.

Eh. I think it's definetly stemmed from NY, but it's becoming more of a national thing. Especially the $350m thing. It was obvious to me that Boras did that because ARod wanted out, but people are spinning that as "ARod is greedy and selfish".
