"We may try to add some infield depth, but Ryan played well enough to be an everyday guy," Hendry said. "It was the first time in his career that he played that many games."

I called it. What the hell is wrong with him?

I see nothing wrong with Hendry saying good things about an employee. I'm sure if the right players come up he'll entertain the idea of a move and make it if he thinks it'll make the team better. IMO, Hendry's more concerned about CF and RF and filling those holes.

Or, he could do what most GM's do and say "We're always looking to improve".

True but if the question is about Theriot then he has to answer in a positive way regarding the subject. I understand why you don't like the quote but I wouldn't really read too much into it. I look at it as Hendry keeping a players value up instead of talking him down. Is it possible Hendry thinks Theriot is an everyday SS, yes. Do I have faith that Hendry will do the right moves to Make this team better, about 25%...yes. I think he painted himself into a corner with all the deals from the 2006 off season and if he is going to improve this team he's going to have to really get the most bang for the buck which is something I don't really have a lot of faith in, much like you. I'm hoping that Lou will help him scope out the right type of players just as Baker did with the wrong ones even though Baker did say he had nothing to do with some of the pickups that Hendry made. They reeked of Baker.

"Sammy Sosa is our starting Right Fielder." Ring a bell?

I don't buy into the statements that Alex Rodriguez can't play SS anymore. The guy earned an AL Gold Glove at SS 3 or 4 years ago. He's a great athlete, and last year he was in better shape than the previous couple years. I'm not saying that he would be the same old A-Rod at SS, and that the scouts say that he couldn't be a ML SS - I'm just saying that I wouldn't discount him as a SS on our team. I'm sure he is being viewed by all teams as an option there if he would fit the team.

For what it's worth, I was talking to Billy Joe Tolliver last night. He knows A-Rod personally, so I feel this has a little weight. He told me how much A-Rod loves Lou, and how money doesn't really matter to him. He thinks A-Rod wants to be a Cub. Once again - take it for what it's worth (only an opinion).

Dick Vitale, who's also chummy with A-Rod, predicts the Cubs.

I don't know if that means doo doo, but he said it.

Just a thought...... 2 years 60MM

1. It would only hamsting the team for 2 years (The same amount of years left on Lou's contract.)

2. It would put Arod that much closer to the HR record. After the 2 years he could sign the big contract that Boras wants. GMs would see the $ coming in for the "HR chase."

3. Arod could use his time in Chicago to help refurbish his reputation, not to mention he could become "The Golden Boy of Baseball" if he could lead the Cubs to a WS title.

I know, its a stretch, but there has to be a good reason that he left that much money on the table in NY. A lot of things that I am reading suggests that Arod really wants to play for Lou again. True or untrue I really have no idea. Only Alex knows.

After 2 years, he's almost 35. He'll still be excellent, but the time for his last big contract is now. There's no way this deal is less than 6 years.

He is going to the Angels. After losing out on Aram last offseason, they won't let hit happen again.

Plus think about it...their owner Art Moreno a Latino-American Owner with the chance to sign the greatest Latino-American ballplayer of all time.(plus he will probably go down as the best ever when his career is over).

Did you just name drop Billy Joe Tolliver? My god, that would have ended the name dropping thread if it were on the first page. Nice work.

BTW, what in god's name do you think Billy Joe and AROD talk about when they hang out? Pretty soon, someone's going to tell me that Jon Kitna and Carl Everett are going to church together.

I think this is all posturing by the Cubs and Hendry. Jimbo always holds his cards close to the vest.

I disagree. Hendry has a history of naming his target and pursuing him to the finish. He has occasionally worked out surprise deals, but by nature he is a target and aggressively pursue GM, and often the target is made public.

Forget that, what the hell do Vitale and ARod talk about? I can't even wrap my head around that.

Count me in the "he goes to the Angels" camp.

Absolutely - I did. Thanks for catching that.

I've got a gut feeling based on absolutely nothing that A-Rod will be a Cub. I'm usually right about this, so go ahead and preorder your A-Rod jerseys.

I heard Billy Joe is a phenomenal golfer.

I'm not optimistic that we'll sign A-Rod, but I damn well bet Boras waits until he can at least factor our offer in. Think he won't use the promise of a potential rich owner and an Uncle Lou/A-Rod reunion as leverage? Of course he will. We'll soon be treated to video of A-Rod working out at shortstop and bragging about how he could make the switch back easily. No doubt Hendry at least gets dinner and some ludicrous contract offer leaked to the press. Probably faked by Boras but hey, at least Jimbo gets to play!

As for where he goes, who knows. If new owner rumors start to get hot and heavy and he likes the name, we might have a shot. I know he's dying to get Mark Cuban's offer.

for my money i say...

1. Dodgers - reunited with Torre

2. Giants - why the hell not...boras gets things done in SF

3. Angels - they got the pockets

I really don't think he is coming to the cubs

the cubs will win the world series in 2012, right before the world ends...a fitting ending

So we would be the all-time World Series champions? I could live (or die) with that!

FYI Rob Neyer is doing a live chat at ESPN and the question on Arod was asked....He thinks the Cubs get him.

Until he signs some where, this will be torture.
