Yankees Likely to Name New Manager on Friday

A source tells ESPN the Magazine's Buster Olney that it "is a good bet" that the Yankees will indeed name the team's next manager on Friday.

 

 

It appears that Mattingly, Girardi, and Pena are the candidates.

I thought all announcements were supposed to wait till after the post season? I would think the Red Sox would have a big problem with the Yankees trying to steal the limelight.

I was at a dinner last night where Joe Girardi (Chris Evert and Jackie Robinson - his daughter accepted) were honored. Anyway, Joe was introduced by a typically high strung and goofy David Cone who went on and on about how great a leader Joe was when they were with the Yankees. It was pretty funny when he was talking about all the negative talk about Joe on WFAN because "all he did was keep grounding out to the pitcher". Girardi's speech felt like a tryout for the manager's position. He really got the crowd excited and basically the night ended as he practically trotted off the stage and back to his table.

Did Mattingly play long enough to get a ring? Girardi got a ring. By that logic Girardi is a true Yankee and Mattingly isn't. :D

I know some Yankee fans that are approaching the ledge right now. First A-Rod, now this. Girardi might win in NY, but if they do it will be inspite of him not becuase of him.

So what does Donny Baseball do if the Yanks go with Girardi? I wouldn't imagine he'd be interested in being the bench coach (if Joe even wanted him). I also can't see him going to any other team in any capacity.
