As has been pointed out nobody has had such a higher winning percentage than the Rockies, what has it been 19/20 or 20/21? Still Colorado in many ways remind me of the 2003 Florida Marlins, it didn't matter what the opposing team did that year, that Marlin team always found ways to beat you. What do y'all think?

Yeah Derwood, I was thinking the same thing. For the life of me though I can't remember their rotation. I remember Willis, and I think Redman was part of it but that's all I can think of.

Beckett, Pavano, Penny rounded out the rotation.

Better pitching/worse hitting, their hot streak lasted longer than 20 games before the end of the season.

Think that team was also better start to finish than this Rockie team. As I recall, the Marlins had the best record in MLB after May 1st or something like that (some date quite early on in the season) - I remember the FOX announcers pimping that stat over and over again. Think it was one of those situations where Jack McKeon 'blew up' in April and May when the team stunk and their record was lousy, and pretty much cruised from then on.

I keep wondering what it would take to turn the Cubs into a hot, young, eager ballclub like the Rox. And it makes me want to booze up and sleep for days.

In that case I stand corrected- I'm probably like many others in that I've been totally preoccupied with what the Rockies have done since the middle of September that I've largely overlooked their prior performance.

The best record from the middle of may is almost entirely because of the finish though. They went 58-45 between May 21 and September 15, when the streak began. That's good, but it's only a .563 winning percentage. The Yankees went 63-41 during that time, a .606 W%. The Cubs went 57-50. In fact, the Rockies season record closely resembled the Cubs, up to that late stretch when they pulled way ahead.

The only thing I would consider remotely similar between the two teams are that they are wild card teams. I don't see much of a comparison between them.
They were also both the hottest teams in the league in the later part of the season.

Are you kidding me? In 2003, towards the end of the season and right into the playoffs the Marlins dominated practically everyone, which included the Giants, Cubs, and Yankees. Florida might not have been on the type of roll as Colorado as been on this year but like the Rockies, the Marlins always found a way to win in unexpectant fashion.

Marlins had much better starting pitching and probably more speed. The Rockies have a better lineup and more power. The Marlins got one of their first two guys on base and used their speed to manufacture runs. The Rockies for the most part hit for a lot of power. The Rockies are a far superior defensive team. The Marlins had a better, more experience, smoking manager. The Rockies have a manager people in Denver have been trying to get rid of for the last two years. The Marlins play in humid weather. The Rockies have a humidifier in a room full of baseballs. The Marlins fans would never go to the game. The Rockies fans started selling out the games after they'd won 15 straight or whatever. I don't recall much about the Marlins pen, but the Rockies isn't spectacular, however they've been pitching out of their minds outside of Fuentes meltdown in game 4.

the marlins didn't dominate the cubs. it took 7 games to beat them.

Mckeon was not the Marlins manager to start the year...I believe it was Torborg and they were way under .500 when Mckeon took over in May...it was one of the greatest comebacks after a bad start of all time if I remember correctly...

They were 16-22 and in 4th place when Torborg was fired. They were 75-49 the rest of the way under McKeon.

And Mckeon stopped playing the crappy vets and let Miggy play every day and he brought up Willis.

Neither the fans nor the owner deserved such a team, but that is life.

McKeon brought up Willis? Willis was brought up 2 days before Torberg was fired, McKeon just got lucky with that one.

I agree with the Cabrera comment, although it took over a month for them to bench Hollandsworth and go to Cabrera after McKeon took over.

The Marlins were a much better and truly championship caliber team.

Their pitching was light years better and their offense wasn't that far behind once Miggy Cabrera came into the lineup.
