I'm not sure if this was discussed, but if it was, my apologies.

Do you see any resemblence between 2003 and 2007 Cubs team? Is 2003 better than 2007? Like is the starting pitching in 2003 better than 2007?

What about the lineup? Is 2003 better than 2007 or the other way around? The bench? Bullpen?

Discuss.

'03 was a pleasant surprise. '07 was built to win.

I think our pitching was a tad better back in 2003. Offensively, we are lots better now.

2003 had better starting pitching, but the bulpen was not as good. This team has better hitting and more power I think. Wood/Prior/Zambrano were awesome that year.

I really miss going into the playoffs with that rotation and the confidence I had. We all know how that worked out, though.

I guess I'll just have to settle for finding my comfort in the fact that the field is so weak.

A tad better? Our pitching was leaps and bounds better in 2003. This year's team has a marginally better offense and a much better bullpen, but overall, I'd say this team is not as good as the 2003 one and is not even close to the 2004 one.

Soto/Kendall > Miller/Bako

DLee > Karros/Simon

DeRosa > Grudz

Aramis = Aramis

Theriot = AGon

Soriano > Alou

Jacque < Lofton

Floyd/Murton < Sosa

I like our position players a bit better this time around.

I'd argue that 2007 Aramis is significantly better than 2003 Aramis, both at the plate and in the field.

Aramis is a better hitter and fielder now than he was in 2003.

And I hate to say it, but Gonzalez was a better hitter (and that's not saying much) than Theriot is right now, and he was a much better fielder.

At least Ryan is hard to K.

I have to agree that 03 was kind of a surprise. 2007 it was almost expected. I like the feeling of expecting to win and following through.

Pitching in 03 was much better. That staff was exactly what you need in October -- dominating power pitching.

Our offense is better this year.

I like the 07 pen better.

manager is better.

07 gets the edge.

Not in the one game at the one moment in time when we needed him to be.

I think the 2003 team was better. You had speed at the top (Soriano can't run now) and plenty of pop. This team is better balanced, but power is important. Miller I believe had the best caught stealing % in the league even though he couldn't hit. 2003 had better starters, but 2007 has a great pen outside of Dempster. Man I am scared of him in the 9th. But with 2007, they had the magic until game 6.

And that's what made it so tough. The guy was GG caliber all year, and then...UGH

One of the biggest differences for me is that I plan to stay closer to home and more sober for this round. I left for DC after game 1 in 03 and was flying back during game 7 -- there was a whole lot of alcohol consumed between, thus I remember very little from the NLCS.

Theriot wouldn't screw up that play. He's too scrappy.

AGon was way more clutch though.

It just palmed him though. You read the hop and it palms him, funky play. A fraction of a second eye off the ball and boom.

Steve Bartman?

I hope the Cubs can win the WS just for that poor guy's sake. He's been through a whole lot of crap for doing what any of us would have done.

I think they'd make him the grand marshall of a WS parade

Please stop saying this. Maybe you would have done it but I know not everyone would.
