You guys can all incorrectly blame Lou for this if you want. I'm chalking this one up to bad luck. Those hard hit balls aren't going to consistently find their fielders. Eventually, they're going to drop. The Cubs have the better pitcher going tomorrow and the better pitcher going on Saturday. This series is far from over.

I expected the Cubs to lose this game anyway coming into the series so it's not a big deal.

Lou pulling Z had nothing to do with those hard hit balls and you know it. If Z stays in this game could still very well be tied.

And if he had pinch hit for Zambrano in the top of the sixth, it might be 5-3. Who knows. It was a reasonable, if not great, move to put in the best reliever on the team.

IF the starter is starting to lose it, yes, then it's a good move.

Fine. I'm done arguing. Lou didn't pitch and he put our best reliever in. Guy's gotta get outs. It's Marmol's fault.

Yes, Marmol sucked. And yes, Lou put his best reliever in. But I don't see hte need to put Marmol in in this situation.

Saving Z for game 4?

He had thrown 85 pitches, Z can easily take 15 or so more and be strong in 4 days.

Which is one step closer to not happening.

The issue I have the move is tha it assumed too much.. This is a short series; every game is a must win; al hands on deck. Paying cutesy for a maybe game is just flat-out wrong

I cautiously share your optimism. We've got to win tomorrow though. Don't want to be down 2-0

Agreed. If the Cubs lose tomorrow, then I'll be worried. But I'm not right now.

I just find it incredibly amusing how the crowd favorite skates by, but the Manager (who always gets all the blame and no credit on EVERY team) gets the hanging. Carry on.

That's cause the manager removed the ace who was dominating after 85 pitches.

For another ace with a .168 BAA and a 1.69 era with 0 runs in his last 23 outings. Like I said we lose this because of not having enough pitching in the 12th by pulling Z - it's on Lou. This one is 90% on Marmol.

Why are you okay with removing a guy who was flat out dominating and had only thrown 85 pitches? I don't get it.

I dont get the saving him for game 4 crap. They should be going for the sweep and trying hard to win every game. None of this saving crap.

Let's end the debate right now.

- Replacing Z with the guy, who was your BP "ACE" in the reg. season? RIGHT move

- Taking Z out when he did? WRONG move

But since Lou decided to forego a possible short-series WIN in the opening game, on the opponent's turf, to play for a game that might not happen, we are already in a "MUST WIN" situation tomorrow night.

So, it was a right & wrong move all at the same time... unfortunately, as the AZ 7th unfolded, it turned into a VERY BAD decision.

Except the bad pitch that led to Drew's HR, Z got the shaft so hard tonight. Unfair.

How did Lou forego tonight's win? Did he tell Marmol to go out there and suck?

The debate about pulling Z aside, this team has come back many times this year. I don't expect a win, but lets just see what they can do in the 9th.

is it just me or are the dbacks fans going crazy whenever their hitters make any kind of contact?

lay off of them, they're just doing what the scoreboard tells them to do.

That's my whole point. Who hasn't had faith in Marmol ALL year in every outing?

I had more faith in Z for one more inning than anyone in the pen, to be honest. And it's not whether or not one has faith in Marmol and Howry, because I'm sure we all do, but Z can handle 1 more inning (~15 pitches) before starting on 3 days rest. And, of course, y ou're playing for a game that might not exist.

True. But the matchups favor us for the next 2 games. BTW I say that tongue in cheek.

Not against Valverde, tho.
