rieu (Cambridge, MA): If the NL is AAAA, then is the NL Central AA? The Cubs have been eliminated from the wild card chase. Do we really have to award the Cubs a playoff spot?

SportsNation Keith Law: (2:41 PM ET ) I couldn't agree more. It's a shame that we could see two of the Phillies, Rockies, and Padres go home, but a team that couldn't even win 87 games in the worst division in baseball gets in.

Rieu, screw you! Keith Law, screw you more!

I hate Keith Law. Even before this. He always bugged me..

All the more reason to hope the Mets get eliminated. I think his head would explode.

Say all you want about the central Keith, but the past two years Central teams have represented the NL in the WS.

Last 3 years.

Complaining about another team not getting in place of the Cubs/Brewers is pretty crazy considering that other team likely won't even be a 90 win team.

Did Keith Law complain when the 83 win Cardinals won the World Series?

He ripped them mercilessly, to the point where he was the sports radio equivalent of public enemy #1 here.

Fans would call sports talk shows for hours on end to call Keith Law everything imaginable.

I refuse to criticize him for speaking the truth, lest I be the same as the knuckle-dragging Cardinal fans.

I didn't have an opinion of him until the draft this year. He said ever draft pick was "outstanding" and offered no criticism at all. He was flat-out bad on the draft, and since then I can't stand him. On top of that, he's hammered the Cubs a couple of times this year, some of it valid, some of it not. Point is, I can't stand the guy.

That's right 3 years. It's going to be 4 years soon...

More importantly, what was his opinion on the relevance of season wins as they relate to post-season success when the 88-win Padres, 97-win Mets, and 95-win Tigers all failed to stop the comedy central's lowly 83-win representatives?

How does the 6-team central compare to the rest of the league in terms of schedule? Do they play more intra-division games than the rest of baseball, or do they face each of their division opponents fewer times each than the rest of baseball?

Well, I mean hey -- they've got a point.

Even though the Cards didn't deserve it last year and became champions.

However, I would point out that none of these other NL contenders are really screaming "great team" to me either. The entire NL is pretty flawed when you think of it.

Actually, when you really think of it -- there's no truly great powerhouse team in all of baseball, not even in the AL. Some of the great teams of yore would probably just rape every team in the league right now, even the Yanks and BoSox.

Who cares about their point... the schedule is the schedule and the rules are the rules.... this isn't 'Nam Donny. They are advocating getting rid of divisions and going with just a NL and AL (presumably they'd keep that separation in the teams), I don't like it and its not going to happen.

More importantly back to these games... I'm gonna call some more big shots from the big 3 propelling us to the playoffs.

We deserve to be in though. Remember the Padres a couple years ago when they made it in with a losing record?

yeah, it's the worst thing since the holocaust that we can't see the brilliant, glorious 87 win phillies in the playoffs and that we have to suffer through watching the terrible, pitiful 83 win cubs. may god have mercy on us all.

They had 82 wins. Two games above .500.

Hell, we could conceivably see only 1 90-win team in the NL (Arizona or Coloardo is guaranteed 90 wins).

We can't possibly lose this one.

Quoting Bill Buckner will do you no good here sir.

Sorry, but I was born in 1989, so I have no recollection of anything Buckner did/said with the Cubs.

OK. That was pointless.

Edit: Let me guess, he said that during the '86 World Series, right?

Seriously! What the flipping flip does Kendall add here? It sure as hell isn't defense! I guess if you need a 27-hopper to the shortstop, well he's your man!

I can't effing believe this. Per 670, here's your lineup:

Sori

Kendall

Lee

Floyd

A-Ram

DeRo

JJ

Riot

Z

At least Lou got Theriot's .270 September OBP out of the 2-spot in favor of Kendall's .283 September OBP.

Put DeRo in the 2-spot and call it a day, this isn't brain surgery. And while we're at it. Aramis needs to hit cleanup, not have the idiotic R-L-R split when the L is far inferior to Aramis. Anyways, it's September and the rosters have expanded, I'm sure the Reds have the bullpen arms and don't care about having to burn a reliever just to face Cliff late in the game.
