Hawks really battled tonight but ended up losing in the shootout, 3-2 to the Oilers. Great effort being as banged up as they are. Still sit at 4th in the conference, so not bad at all.

Holy crap we beat Ottawa!

yeah, a day after getting outplayed by the crapitols. the best part of last night's game was that we outshot ottawa by a pretty good margin... probably the best game the flyers have played all year. they've got the potential to be great, but there needs to be more consistency (cue joe morgan). i'm also not totally sold on john stevens as a head coach.

Disappointing end to the circus trip, with an OTL and a loss on back-to-back nights. They did manage to get 6 of 12 possible points during the trip. This might be a pivotal time of the season right now. The Blackhawks are still "in" the playoffs, but barely ahead of the 9th and 10th place teams. They've got 11 of 14 at home through the end of December, followed by a stretch with a ton of road games. Kane and Toews are stuck in a rut, with neither getting points in recent games and both struggling in terms of +/-. There have been a few injuries recently as well. Now would be the time for Havlant to provide a much needed boost.

I've been worried about 3 things regarding the kids: Too much pressure on them to carry the team; resentment from the veterans about the kids getting most of the credit/attention; and having one or both of them start to struggle at the same time the team struggles. It would be nice if a couple guys stepped in and lit it up for a few games to take attention away from Kane and Toews for a while.

havlat has two goals in two periods so far in his first game back. one in his first shift in the 1st, second on his first shift in the 2nd.

yup, 3-0 Hawks over the Lightning late in the 2nd currently. Sounds like the Hawks are controlling the play, and Havlat has had a big impact.

the befuddling lack of consistency continues for the flyers. Road win against Carolina, OT loss at home to Washington on Friday, road win against Ottawa Saturday, home loss to Boston, and another road win against Carolina. So we beat good teams on the road and lose to bad teams at home... wtf?

Yeah, but the win vs Ottawa doesn't really mean anything, considering they are losing to everybody. Seriously though, I feel like every day I hear something about Ottawa it's a lesser team upsetting them, last night it was the Islanders. That was the 4th straight loss, and 5 in 6 games. Really speaks to their ridiculous start that they can go through a stretch like that and still be first in their conference by 4 points with a game in hand.

Can't really ask for anything more from his return. Kane with 3 assists, Toews with a goal. Sharp continues to impress.

It's going to be really sweet if they keep this up.

Hawks are really starting to turn some heads now. It took Havlat what? All of 30 seconds to score his first goal? Too bad I couldn't get the game. I caught some of the live look-ins on the NHL Network though.

Keep up the good work plz.

NHL Network is awesome. As is the Center Ice package.

I need to start checking out NHLN more often. I had the Center Ice once, and I was lucky to buy it the year the Hawks were last good. But there's just way too many untelevised games. A lot of teams don't broadcast all of their games, just like the Pirates sometimes don't televise all 162. So when the Blackhawks were facing a team like Calgary at home, there was a good chance it wouldn't show.

I'm hoping HDNet keeps showing more and more games.

I went to this game, and it was an absolutely dominant performance. lots of pretty goals on the rush, which is something i can't remember seeing from the Blackhawks in a long, long time.

it helped that none of TB's defensemen knew how to defend a 2 on 1.

I don't know too much about hockey, but I thought if a team has a one man advantage due to a penalty, once the advantaged team scores a goal, the power play is over. The Hawks had a two-man advantage, scored, but still had the two-man advantage afterward. Are there different rules for a two-man?

looking at the box score, the first penalty was a double minor. what happens there is that if a goal is scored in the first two minutes of a 4 minute penalty, then the guy stays in the box but there are then only 2 minutes left on the PP. since his was the first penalty of the 5-on-3, he stayed in the box since there was still about 3 minutes left on his penalty.

kind of confusing.
