yeah, at absolute worst they have to at least play every other team. maybe not travel to every arena, but at least play every team.

and boston can't play their last west coast game in october/early november. that's incredibly dumb.

another third period comeback for the kings. only two goals this time, and they lost in a shootout. oh well, at least they earned a point when they probably didn't deserve one.

Yeah its a joke that teams like Pittsburgh and Washington only come here once every 3 years. If Crosby happens to get injured and misses the game versus the Canucks this year, he won't be back here until 2010-2011.

congrats to all the new hockey hall of famers, except for scott stevens, who can burn in hell.

ron francis has always been one of my favorite non-flyers... real classy guy, good leader. He has done some work with Special Olympics and been a big supporter of his brother, who I believe has Down's. He also did a lot for underprivileged youth in Pittsburgh and Carolina. One of the really good people anywhere, not just in hockey.

I don't really care about HOF type things, but man, the NHL really blew it with this. There were some big names going in, and I didn't hear a thing about it until after it happened.

The NHL has a HOF?

Blues rocked Detroit last night with about 10 minutes of solid play in the second period. The rest of the time the Wings dominated play. Amazing crowd at Scottrade for a Tuesday night.

And while David Perron sure looks undersized and outmanned out there sometimes, he can get it done. He might end up third in the Calder race.

4 goals in 10 minutes is only solid? Detroit dominated the rest of the play? Are you serious?

Also, when does Perron ever look out manned out there?

How bout them Hawks. Sharp with a hat trick tonight. 4-0 against Detroit for the season which is amazing considering how good the Wings are.

Crap I forgot to watch them. Oh well, go Hawks!

I actually got to watch some of this game, only the 2nd I've seen all year. But I'm pissed I didn't realize it was on HDNet until there were just 6 minutes remaining. I need to check out that channel more often.

Might as well bring up the McDonough as president thing here. I like it as far as getting exposure for the Blackhawks and possibly building up excitement regarding the team. I have my doubts how it will work as far as him evaluating the hockey personel decision makers and on ice leadership. He would have to lean heavily on somebody with strong hockey knowledge, both in terms of judging whether Tallon is doing a good job, and if not, finding his replacement. I never trust McDonough to make the right decision regarding Hendry, and viewed him as a placeholder more than an actual president making longterm decisions about the team.

He does bring that marketing background that the BHawks deffinatly need.

Reading some Hawk sites on the internet, McDonough is apparently thinking about bringing Wayne Messmer back for the anthem, and supposedly there is talk that Dan Kelly could be on the way out, and perhaps Pat Foley back in? Not sure if I buy it right now, but we'll see.

No doubt. It could work out real well if he delegates the hockey decisions to the right people. His apparant faith in Hendry makes me question whether he can do that. Bottom line is he can't be the guy who makes the final decision on Tallon, and he can't be the guy who decides on his successor, if he gets one. As long as he stays in the business side, it could work.

MJH brought it up to him in an interview earlier this afternoon. He didn't totally shoot it down, but he gave them a very PR-like response in saying, "We're happy with what we have right now."

He'd be an instant hero if he could get Foley and Messmer back.

But with Wayne being a part-owner of the Wolves, he may not be available at any price. I don't see any reason he couldn't do both.

But you know, I'm also not sure how much animosity either Messmer or Foley have toward the organization. There are new folks, but who knows...it might not be enough.

If I had to guess, I'd bet their animosity would be toward Bill and Bob, who are gone. Most of the time, when the specific people involved are gone, the exiled come back to the organization they grew up with, so to speak. Plus, he's got a personal relationship with both of those guys.

Payback game tonight for the WILD vs Cannucks. I think little happens after Boogard drew attention to himself with the pinky and brain twins comment. Although the game after this one between these 2 teams will be a blood bath.

I think it was real smart of Vigneault to play Luongo yesterday and give Sanford the start today. The last thing the Canucks need is Luongo being taken out.

Prior to last night's win, I think the Hawks were in a group of 9 western conference teams within a range of 21-23 points. Their current point total, 25, ties them for 4th in the conference, even with the two other division leaders. But it looks like everybody besides Detroit is going to be in a dog fight for playoff position, and qualifying. There's really only 3 teams that have fallen significantly behind the pack.

As nice as the first quarter of the season has been, there can't be any letting up. And as good a story as the kids have been so far, I'm a little concerned about how they hold up for the season. They've already hit a bit of a cold spell, and with all the attention being placed on them, there could be a lot of pressure on some untested shoulders. For the next quarter season I'm hoping guys like Lang, Havlat, Sharp and Khabi can do enough to draw some attention to the rest of the team and take some pressure off Toews and Kane. And Ruutu needs to get back on the score sheet.

Anyone have an idea of when Havlat is coming back?

They've been saying there's a chance he could play Nov. 28th against Tampa Bay.

Been a tough game so far for the Hawks tonight, 0-0 after 1 period but they look really tired, apparently the flu bug has hit the team pretty badly, Ruutu and Sharp are out tonight because of it, Seabrook has it but is playing, and they said Lalime also has it and has lost 10 pounds. They've done a lot of line juggling but are at least keeping their heads above water in Edmonton so far.
