Blues played a great game last night at Minnesota. They are going to be inconsistent all year, as evidenced by the bad home loss to Phoenix on Tuesday, but things are looking up.

Yeah, until someone not on the top line starts scoring consistently, they are going to have some rough nights. I do think they are a playoff team though.

The Canucks are so screwed. Mitchell and Krajicek were already injured. Now Bieksa might be out for the rest of the season and Salo could miss 3-4 months. This season looks like a writeoff.

EDIT: Looks like I overreacted. Salo out 4 weeks, Bieksa out 6-8 weeks.

really that's it for bieksa? i thought i read that he tore his achilles tendon pretty badly. it was pretty bizarre watching him crawl on the ice last night.

i only saw the salo injury live. seeing blood spurt onto the ice like it did with him is never good.

I'm actually enjoying watching Toews and kane play, well, not really on TV but mostly the highlights on NHL.com or yahoo.

I was just going to come here and post that. Rutuu looks decent as well.

pretty sweet 3-2 win over the Blues last night for the Hawks.

I'm lovin' it!

Only a few more days until the first home televised game. Mark November 11th on your calendars!!!

Bieksa tore his calf, not his achilles

First reports were that his achilles was cut 60% of the way, then it was just his calf, then it was his achilles again and now they are saying its a small muscle just under the calf.

Surprisingly the Canucks played pretty sold defensively against the Avs on Saturday. I had my doubts about Bourdon but he played solid.

Pretty lucky win. FIVE FREAKIN POSTS?! REALLY BLUES?

15 games in and the Blackhawks are in 3rd place in their division, 6th in the conference, and tied for 10th in the league in goals scored (13th in goals per game). That last bit may be the most surprising. They were at the bottom the past few years, and even when the 2007 season started out okay, they were still around 25th. They still don't have anybody flirting with the league leaders, but Kane and Toews are off to as good a start as anybody could have envisioned, and Robert Lang has been everything the Blackhawks could have hoped for.

Erstwhile star in the making Tuomu Ruutu has notched 3 goals and 7 assists in his 14 games, and he's a +9.

If Havlat really does come back and play 55-60 games at the level he's shown he's capable of playing, and if the defense/goalie situation settles in a bit, this team really could make some noise this season.

we beat the pens last night, which might not sound impressive, but we went 0-8 against them last year... so i'm happy. Plus it was in the igloo (i'm going to a flyers-pens game there in february; should have my new mike richards sweater by then!)

What's the pitt/philly dynamic like? Of all the philly/south jersey people I know, I never hear much of anything about any of the pitt teams. They hate the mets and braves, cowboys, giants and redskins, and the devils and rangers. But is there much animosity with any pittsburgh teams?

actually right here in state college is probably where you'll see the biggest "rivalry" between philly and pittsburgh, because you have a lot of transplanted fans of both cities' teams. I never cared about the Steelers til I got here, but one day I was at the bar watching the Eagles play the Jets, and Steelers fans were filtering in for their 4:00 game. The Eagles game was close the Steelers fans were passionately rooting for the Jets, or more specifically, against the Eagles. So I started to dislike the Steelers after that.

Otherwise, Philly people don't really care about Pittsburgh. The Flyers and Pens are rivals b/c they're in the same division. I think if you asked a real Flyers fan which teams he hates the most, he'd say Devils and Rangers most and then the Penguins. I get the impression that most Pens fans consider the Flyers to be their biggest rival, though.

I've only been to PSU a handful of times, and did notice a little back and forth between the two fan bases. But not much. I only know one Penguins fan, and I'm not sure who he considers a rival. He lives here and would probably say Rangers, if only because that's about the only place he sees them play.

Another matchup with the Blues tonight. A couple changes afoot, with Lalime getting the 2nd start in a row, Burish replacing Adams and Samsonov getting back on the ice. Havlat's still at least a few games away from playing.

Ride the hot hand. Lalime did a great job against a tough Columbus front line and held them in check for 57 minutes.

I'm glad I have FSN Midwest. I can actually watch a Hawks home game tonight.

EPIC finish to the Kings game. Kings down 4-0 with 9 minutes left, get a PP. Dustin Brown scores with a little over 7 minutes left to spark a 5 goal rally in 5:07. Modano blasts in a PP goal with a minute left, Kopitar scores to win in it OT.

WOW.

I haven't been that excited watching Kings hockey in a long time. Nor have I been that excited about my team in a long time.

Habs/Sens was the best game I've seen this year until the Kings game just now. Rangers/Leafs was also a great game (my boy Avery with the Gordie Howe hat trick).

Sounds like it was an amazing game, with that win the Kings jump from 14h place to 7th, the Western Conference is so tight, hopefully it lasts. I think the Kings got a shot at the playoffs this year.

I'm pumped for tonight's Hawks/Wings game. Lot of buzz for this one, first televised home game of the year, Detroit looking for ten straight wins and CSN is going to have a lot of extra coverage of this one. Khabibulin will be starting, and there was a rumor that Havlat could play on the 'net but I doubt that happens.

Go Hawks!

Hawks up 2-0 after the first period!

and looking pretty good in the process. the PP looks incredible. i was shocked they didn't score on their first PP opp. in the second period.

khabi looks great.
