Tired of his ever-changing attitude, look for the Orioles to make an extra effort to trade shortstop Miguel Tejada this winter.

Boy, I'd love to install Tejada as our shortstop and move Theriot to the utility role. That would be a huge upgrade. We all know that SS, CF, RF and C are the areas of weakness, and with a tough free agent market, this might be a good way to go.

I was thinking about Miguel the other day as an option this offseason. Wouldn't be a bad move, for certain.

Yea but SS isn't a huge hole right now compared to the OF.

I'll take an improved OF. I am in no way saying that Theriot is better than Miguel.

But you are saying that Theriot > Pie or Murton.

I don't agree with that statement.

Theriots OPS is barely better than Izturis's, and his OPS for September is sub 550. SS is a hole right now as well.

Slumps will happen, Theriot will likely do considerably better next year given the starting job all year.

And OPS does not count SB, fielding or pure hustle.

Murton isn't the starter and likely won't be next year. Pie is not entrenched in my book as this great baseball player.

And Theriot is a great baseball player in your mind? Hooray for scrappy guys!

I've been a fan of Theriot since he was drafted, but he is what he is. I'm glad he's on the team and he's a great guy to have around as a utility guy. But he provides no power and doesn't get on base enough to close the production gap. On defense, he's very reliable but does not have the range of other SS. He is a great baserunner - but that's not nearly as important as other facets of the game.

Pie may or may not turn into a great ballplayer, but at least he could. He's also a pretty good bet to be at least as productive as Theriot in 2008 while playing a better CF than Theriot plays SS.

Murton would almost certainly be better than either on offense, even adjusted for position, in 2008. If he's not the starter in 2008, you still need to say that Theriot will be more productive than Jones or whomever else will be out there. I'm just listing Pie & Murton as the default options.

no, but he brings more than pie presumably will and I just don't see Murton getting the chance so we have to revert to Floyd.

Theriot or Floyd? Real head scratcher there.

Who is doing the presuming? It certainly isn't what I presume about their production, as I said above.

Floyd/Murton is less of a hole than Theriot.

Don't you mean Floyd? Murton doesn't get a fair chance and probably won't.

I'll take Riot at short over Floyd in right any day.

I like Theriot a lot, but quite frankly he's destined to be a utility player, whereas Pie is going to be fixture in CF for us for years to come.

What is so bad about Theriot's range?

IMO he's done a terrific job, you seem to forget that our pitchers are mostly flyball and K pitchers.

The Riot has a .685 OPS on the year. His slugging is atrocioius and his OBP is pretty sub-par as well. He's nothing more than a good utility player. I would definitely take an upgrade at SS.

Baltimore Sun[/url]"]When asked before Thursday's game about Hernandez playing shortstop, Tejada said, "At least if they have somebody else, they can trade me somewhere else."

It's pretty obvious that Tejada has had enough in Baltimore. If he doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'd love to trade for him.
