I'm sure none of you ever read the notes on Cubs.com, but there were actually a couple interesting things in the ones posted before last night's game. Sorry if this was addressed elsewhere.

The rotation is mapped out as follows

9/13: Trachsel(3 days)

9/14: Zambrano(5 days)

9/15: Lilly

9/15: Marshall

9/16: Marquis

9/17: Hill

9/18: Zambrano(3 days)

9/19: Lilly(3 days)

9/21: Marquis

9/22: Hill

9/23: Zambrano

9/25: (Lilly)

9/26: (Marquis)

9/27: ???

9/28: (Hill)/Lilly/Zambrano

9/29: Hill/Lilly/(Zambrano)

9/30: Hill/(Lilly)/Zambrano

Lou said it'd be Hill, Lilly and Z those last 3 games assuming they mean something, I ()d the pitcher who makes the most sense. Same thing with the 25th and 26th. What's the assumption here? He going back to Trachsel/Marshall on the 27th or should I not take Lou's comments at face and assume he throws Hill the 27th, the 28th, then Lilly and Marquis on short rest to end the year?

Also Lou had a fun quote talking about the approach of hitters

"If you want selective, patient hitters, you sign that type of player over the winter and now you've got it," Piniella said. "You're not going to change what hitters do during the course of the year at the end of the season just because it makes sense. We go with what we've got and what we've done, and do the best we can with it.

"If you want the other type of approach, then that's the type of player you have to pencil in on your club over the winter," he said.

Anyone else see that as a shot at Hendry?

I take it at face value as defending the personnel they do have, though not too happy about some of the players' approaches.

The last few games probably depends on how far down to the wire the race goes. If we've clinched, they'll want to reset the rotation for the Divisional series.

Trachsel definitely stays as insurance/garbage man.

No more Trachsel after today?

I think the 27th will be either a Marshall or Trachsel start. In a perfect world, the Cubs win 12-11 tonight and Trachsel is DFAed after the game.

No. In a perfect world Trachsel trips on his way to the bullpen mound for pregame warmups, hurts himself, and can't even start the game today. Then Marshall is plugged in to replace him, pitches his best game of the year, and returns to the rotation for good.

And then who starts the other game of the double header on Saturday?

I dunno Marquis? Marshall is not gonna be in the rotation becuase it will only be a 4 man rotation, and the only way he gets in is by taking Marquis out, and that is not going to happen.

I'd forgotten about that. Fortunately Good Trachsel made an appearance and made it a moot point.
