I would just like to express once again that I think it's bullcrap that this wasn't a day game.

Why? Isn't it in Houston?

Houston usually has 1:05 starts for getaway day. I also think it's pretty stupid why it wasn't a day game today.

Anyway, we'll lose. Trachsel on the mound combined with Cy Williams going for Houston doesn't give me too much hope.

I just assumed that getaway day would be a day game, but instead they will be of no help in making the next 45 minutes go by.

:resuming clock-watching:

I didn't realize that. Maybe because the Cubs are going to St. Louis instead of someplace farther?

Please tell me that isn't the lineup.

It probably is. I actually like giving DeRosa one day off here. He has been awful against Woody Williams (2 for 16) and could use a day off. I do not support Fontenot batting 2nd, even with his good numbers against Williams and his good numbers in September in limited at bats.

Kendall 6th is a pretty good idea with his success against Williams, but I'd rather have him 2nd, Jones 6th, and Fontenot 7th.

As for Floyd, he's had 3 straight good games at the plate. I don't mind Lou keeping him in trying for a 4th in a row, and he also has good numbers against Williams.

Argh, stop rotting Aramis in the 5-spot.

Inserting a lefty between two righties is strategically sound, dude.

I know Dusty gets hammered for that, but it actually is.

I thought the prevailing opinion on NSBB was the Bill James "it doesn't actually matter where you bat" idea.

I'd rather have Aramis bat 4th and have the potential for more PA than him batting 5th in place of an inferior hitter.

As far as I know, those studies don't include lefty/righy splits in their underlying assumptions. Hitting two left-handers in consecutive order makes it to easy for the opposing manager to utilize a LOOGY without making him face a right-handed hitter.

I don't know that Ramirez is "rotting" exactly..........

batting 5th AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BABIP
Ramirez 14 4 6 2 0 2 14 2 1 3 0.429 0.467 1.000 1.467 0.444

On average, it costs him less than one at-bat per week.

I hope you're not in the "bat Soriano fifth camp." Because doing that would cost Soriano four times the number of at-bats than batting Ramirez fifth instead of fourth.

Lineup:

Soriano

Fontenot

Lee

Floyd

Ramirez

Kendall

Jones

Theriot

Trachsel

Lineup will change because Lee is a scratch. He fouled a ball off his knee and can't run. Ward will play first. No batting order yet.

Did this happen during BP today?

I think Lee could use a day off, so I'm not too freaked out about this. Hopefully its just a day though and he's rested and ready to go this weekend.

He took one off his ankle during the game last night.
