I was watching Atl vs. NYM on ESPN and they were talking about the centerfield free agency market for next year saying there would be a bunch of good ones next year.

Assuming the sale of the Cubs doesn't affect their willingness to spend in the off season, should Pie be our automatic CF or do we go shopping?

I say we pencil him in as our everyday CF and look for a power RF. Not sure who will be available next year, but I just wish the Cubs would stick with him instead of yanking him around.

What are ye thoughts?

Let the damn player start everyday and work out his problems. I can see him hitting #5, behind Lee and Ramirez.

As long as the Cubs upgrade at least one bat (e.g., Tejada, Griffey, Burrell) - yes, Pie should be the CF next year.

Griffey would be an interesting choice.

No way should he be automatically penciled in. If there is a better option, by all means pursue it. I personally don't think he's going to be anything better than an average player, but if he's the best option then I'm fine with him being given the job.

While I understand and in some ways agree with what you're saying, but I think there are much more pressing issues on this team that need to be dealt with. We have a good, cheap, in house option for center field then so be it, lets spend our money on SS (AROD)

If there are better options available and the finances available to pursue them, the Cubs should go for it. Take the upgrade where you can. I don't think those options are available which is why I think he should start next year.

Man, I'd love to have A-Rod, but do you seriously think the Cubs would be willing to spend that kind of money, particularly with new ownership pending?

If the Cubs finally get a real RFer who can hit or a SS (ARod) then you don't have to worry about Pie's hitting. You can afford to bat him 8th and allow him to work through his ups and downs.

If we manage to sign Fukudome, I'd like to see...

1. Alfonso Soriano (LF)

2. Ryan Theriot (SS)

3. Derrek Lee (1B)

4. Aramis Ramirez (3B)

5. Kosuke Fukudome (RF)

6. Mark DeRosa (2B)

7. Geovany Soto ©

8. Felix Pie (CF)

Sticking Pie at the bottom of the order will put him in a low-pressure spot, where I believe he will excel. Once he does, move him up. I still think that he'll eventually be our leadoff hitter and Soriano can move down to the 5 (where he belongs).

Yes, but I disagree with the notion he should be starting right now.

agreed. a division race is not the time to "work out the holes in your swing"

is there a cf in the FA market that will be worth half of what they get paid?

Mike Cameron's going to be a great pick up for someone this off season.

Andruw Jones will be, Kenny Lofton always appears to be worth getting. Aaron Rowand meh. Torii Hunter meh. Corey Patterson interests me...

i dont believe any of those guys have signed extensions. if they have beat me i dont care.

even if it is it's at worst average and hes a decent hitter. hes a .280 EqA CF with above average defense who doesnt murder your OBP.

is eqa position specific? I thought it was?

Posted
No. EqA isn't adjusted for position. It's only adjusted for park (read my thread to find about that) and league/time ---- even league and time is misleading. VORP is position adjusted, but it's EqA rate counterpart, MLVr is not.
