All managers make mistakes... But Piniella is still no Dusty... But still...

-Starting Steve Trachsel instead of Sean Marshall.

-Koyie Hill

-Not shaving for more than 2 days.

-Not using Soto.

If Soriano has a bad 2 week stretch in the leadoff spot he's just working out of a slump.

If Soriano has a bad 2 day stretch in the 5 spot, he's not comfortable there and has to go back his comfort zone.

SAC BUNTS.

I mentioned this in the game thread, but Lou is way too impulsive. How is it the best baseball decision to bunt with Pie to get Lee to 2nd one inning, and then 2 innings later it's suddenly the best baseball decision to pinch hit with Murton.

I say pinch hit with Murton because unfortunately we had no lefties left on the bench. Never shoulda pinch ran Sam Fuld.

This line is

Worse than Neifi's career line?

Worse than Royce Clayton's career line?

Lou's #2 pinch hitter's line from July on.

The answer is yes.

Mike Fontenot blows.

Jason Kendall and Cliff Floyd each bring one main skill to this team, that is their ability to get on base. They are consistently put in the 5 spot(AND NOW 4th???) and the 8 spot where their OBPs are marginalized.

The worst aspect of Alfonso Soriano's offensive games is his OBP. He is placed in the spot where it is most important.

All Lou could do in the beginning of the season was piss and moan about how awful Michael Barret's defense was. He needed someone in there that could catch the damn ball. Jason Kendall can neither catch the damn ball, nor can he throw the damn ball.

Soriano is a #5 hitter, not a leadoff hitter.

It really is as simple as that. How Lou doesn't see that is beyond me.

These are Murton and Floyd's lines since Murton was recalled.

All we ever hear about it is how Lou rides the hot hand, plays the guy that's earned it with his play, but it's all just BS so Lou can play his gritty guys and his veterans.

Fontenot started pretty regularly a month after he was worth a damn.

Ryan Theriot has been just terrible lately and Lou won't give him so much as a day off. I don't want to debate whether Cedeno is an ok option at SS, but it'd be hard for a replacement to not play as well as Theriot has been playing lately.

Of course he's Lou's Neifi so he's not gonna sit for the next 3 years.

Yes but he can hit the damn ball and get on the damn base... I'm sure Soto can do the same thing with his bat and his glove will obviously be better... But will his game-calling be better than Kendall? Would it be worth putting him in there if it isnt?

I haven't even touched on the nonsense that is going to happen with the pitching staff over the next month. Seriously what the hell is he doing?

Well we're going to pitch you on 5 days rest here so that you can play against a terrible team that is out of the race. And since we held you back for no apparent reason, we're gonna have to bring you back on 3 days rest so we can get you back on schedule!!

Oh and Steve Trachsel! Definitely Steve Trachsel. Please more of him.

Sean Marshall, you have the 2nd best ERA of the starters, you, you can go hang out with Ohman.

Lou didn't ever really piss and moan about Barrett's defense. I think that getting in a fight with your starting pitcher then following him into the clubhouse during the game to continue the conflict is probably where Barrett lost Lou. That and running the bases like a drunk monkey (and that is probably an insult to base running drunk monkeys).

Geo was known as a defensive catcher throughout the minors, so I'm guessing his game calling(whatever arbitrary definition you have for that) is just fine.

And he's got more experience with Rich Hill than anyone on the roster; more experience with most of the rest of the pitchers on the 25-man Kendall does since he's been at ST for 3 straight years (and is one of the last minor leaguers to go back) and has caught a lot of them in the minors.

He has more power than Kendall, can obviously throw guys out at a better rate and is better at blocking pitches.

Glad you liked the thread, SSR. You've been spot on so far.

This loss right here is up with "This game is Ova", the 5 run ninth inning against the Mets, and numerous other Astros losses this year.

I'll add:

1. Not pinch hitting for Marquis in he bottom of the 5th...we've got a deep pen now and he'd just given up 2 runs...get him out and give him (and more importantly the team) a better chance to win the game...(especially when you pull him before he gets an out in the 6th).

2. Dempster in a non-closing situation? Seriously? When we've got a deep, fairly well rested pen?

2A. Leaving Dempster out longer than an inning.

3. Pie "trying" to bunt

4. Everyone else trying to bunt.

Don't get me wrong, I like Lou, but last night was a bad game on his part....15 men left on base.....ugh.
