Jays close to re-signing McDonald

The Jays are close to signing shortstop John McDonald to a two-year extension worth about $2 million per season.

 

Watch out, Red Sox and Yankees. McDonald has been as awful as usual with the bat this year, and while he's still very good with the glove, he's past his peak. The Providence product turns 33 later this month. Going forward with him as a regular would just be a sign that the Jays are content as a third-place team.

And upon further review, his career OPS is below .600 and the only time he put up one above .700 was a year he only had 9 at bats.
