Jays close to re-signing McDonald

It's official:

 

John McDonald-SS-Blue Jays Sep. 11 - 3:10 pm et

 

Blue Jays agreed to terms with shortstop John McDonald on a two-year, $3.8 million contract.

 

McDonald is the same player he's always been, but no one has felt the need to sign him to a multiyear deal until he was two weeks shy of his 33rd birthday. The Providence College product is batting .252/.276/.332 in a career-high 286 at-bats this season. He remains a Gold Glove-caliber defender, even though he doesn't have as much range as he once did, but his glove alone doesn't make him a quality regular. The Jays should still be looking for someone to start over him next year. However, it doesn't figure to be their top priority.

He is a very good defensive player, I have not heard anyone here in Toronto refer to him as a potential All-Star though. The Jays need to improve their offense if they plan to carry him as an everyday player. I've thought for while TO would be a good spot for Cedeno to end up. I doubt Cubs would get anything back, but I think Ronnie could surprise if given a shot again.

The Toronto media has gigantic hard on for this guy becuase he has made a couple really nice defensive plays the last month or so. I know Blue Jay fans that were saying he will be an all star next year.

 

Maybe Riccardi learned from DePo to fear the media...MacDonald should send a check to Plaschke.

Ricciardi and Depooooo wouldnt know a prospect if it were Babe Ruth in front of them.

 

DePo gets no credit for Kemp, Loney, and Martin?

. Not at all period, they were all signed and drafted by Logan White who should be getting some considerations for a Gm, all three of these guys were drafted and signed before Mr Personality came to the Dodgers and White is still with the Dodgers.

Tell the truth, did DePo sleep with your wife?

People need to know the scoreboard and the fact is Logan White had everything to do with Kemp, Loney and Martin and Depo had nothing to do with them!

 

DePo is the one who didn't trade them off for marginal veterans.

Thats good but I think Hillary Clinton or John Kerry would know not to trade those players and Im sure White would have argued quite a bit not to do so. Also Depo's buddy Ricciardi is very famous for letting go of Delgado, Carpenter and Escobar without getting a drop of water for those players and they're still 500 6years later after he took over for a 500 club. Also traded Izturris/Quantril for Prokopec/Ricketts when he could have had Gagne

 

Well then maybe we should look to Hilary Clinton and John Kerry as Hendry's replacement, because he's sure guilty of it. Nice how you move the argument off of DePo and to Riccardi when your points fail.

 

Additionally, DePo should be credited for Eithier.

Yeah, if you look up, I was the one who started that connection in this thread. The underlying tone of that, was that signing MacDonald appears to be a completely un-saber move.

to be fair, he's one of the best-fielding shortstops in the game, something you couldn't say about neifi. But yeah, his bat is atrocious. I'd be fine with giving him $1M to be a backup and spot starter, but not close to $2M. And if he's your starting SS you've really got a black hole offensively.
