Jim Brower-R- Yankees Aug. 6 - 12:48 pm et

Yankees purchased the contract of RHP Jim Brower from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.

Joba Chamberlain's call-up will apparently have to wait. The Yankees cleared room for Brower on the roster by designating Mike Myers for assignment.

Brower is average at best, and is 34. Why the heck would they call him up over one of their top pitching prospects, who is ready to contribute in the majors? Their pen isn't good and just got worse.

I don't think it's surprising that a team making a push for the playoffs would want a guy who has pitched in tight situations before, rather than a kid who has never stepped on a big league mound.

Why give up Myers then?

(Unless there's something not being reported)

But Jim Brower sucks. It's reasoning like that keeps the Lenny Harrises and Neifi Perezes of the world employed.

Myers has given up an 821 OPS to lefties.

IBL

Which is odd that over the last two years he's been worse vs. lefties as a sidearm/3/4 LH'er.

In '05 his OPS vs. was .409.

In all honesty, he's better than Eyre and Ohman and from the area.

Give me Myers over Will Ohman any day. I've always liked sidewinders, and wondered why Rapadas major league stint was as short as it was.

However, when its comes to sidewinders, it seems that whle they are very hard to hit, if a hitter manages to get ahold of a side arm pitch, its usually a guaranteed base hit.
