Score is saying that Patterson is coming up.

I'm guessing he's coming up to play outfield since the Cubs don't seem to like his defense at 2b and we have 15 second basemen on the team already.

I am guessing that Derossa is going to be primarly an OFer the next few weeks

DeRosa in RF pains me. He hasn't looked any better out there recently than Floyd
By all account I've read (besides fans here), DeRosa is an above average defensive outfielder.

he has seemed a little overwhelmed the last couple of games

Based on what?

based on bad routes to balls, misplaying balls off the wall, etc.

Just like Gallagher, EPatt doesn't have to be added to the 40-man til after next season. There are going to be some interesting 40-man decisions this offseason because the Cubs added so many people.

If Pie isn't all the way back physically, why not just call up Buck Coats.

Cause Buck Coats sucks. Pie is fine, they're stupid.

Patterson instead of Pie? Stupid.

Well, we need a leadoff hitter...At least that's their thinking.

We have one. He's that little guy who's been playing SS for us.

Don't agree with throwing Patterson in during this stretch run. What he K's the first time up to bat, and the boo birds come out.

DeRosa would be the easy choice if we didn't need what marginal power he has batting in the middle of the order.

I'd probably bat Murton there and start him in right field. When Murton's not playing, you could put Fontenot there (playing him at 2nd and DeRosa in right).

1. Theriot ss

2. Murton rf

3. Lee 1b

4. Ramirez 3b

5. Floyd lf

6. DeRosa 2b

7. Kendall/Soto c

8. Pie cf

9. Zambrano/Lilly/Hil/Marshall/Marquis p

Bench: Jones, Fontenot, Kendall/Soto, Cedeno, Pagan

How?

Anyway, I hate, hate, hate the "we need an X hitter". The Cubs need a CF and now a LF. They can put Floyd in left or they can put Murton in LF. They should put Pie in CF, but they won't. For that matter they should bring up Soto and give him a chance for cryiong out loud. There is very little chance he'll be worse than the Hill/Kendall tandem.

They can let Muton lead off or Fontenot or Theriot or DeRosa.

Was thinking the same. Seems like he hasn't hit any homeruns since April though, when he started out hot.

DeRosa has no marginal power to provide. His last HR was June 27, and prior to that was June 3. He has 5 extra base hits since the end of June.

I'm simply going off what is probably the team's thinking.

The truly messed up part about all of this is that if Pie was allowed to play through his struggles and stay with the team the whole season he probably would have figured it out by now. Good thing we stuck with Jones and his .231 EqA.

I like EPatt, but I don't understand this decision at all. Like TT said, Pie's leg must not be completely healthy. Otherwise, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Was a decision made?

If Lou didn't like Murton's defense, I'll be interested to see what he thinks of EPatt playing 2B. The times I've seen him in Iowa it was an adventure.

Nothing official yet, no. I still think it will be Pie and the E-Patt blurb was just a snafu.

Either way, I am wondering if they will even be available for tonights game. Hopefully a decision has already been made and the press just doesn't know it yet.

We're facing a LHP tonight, so neither Pie nor EPatt will likely be in the lineup anyhow.

I suspect we'll see Murton in LF, Pagan in CF, Floyd/Derosa in RF, and Derosa/Fontenot at 2B.
