Wow, that team really doesn't seem very good. Who were the other SP?

Prior, Zambrano, Clement, and Estes. The first 4 starters were the reason the Cubs got in to the playoffs for the most part. Prior was 3rd in the NL in ERA, Zambrano was 7th, Wood was 8th, and Clement was 27th.

interesting, the Cubs really did get screwed by the Wood/Prior injury train and well by Clement sucking so much all of a sudden. I blame the Cardinals, the entire universe seems to be in their favor.

Actually I believe Clement left as a free agent at the end of that year, and then he started sucking. Clement had some of the nastiest stuff, but he could never harness his control. I still to this day dont understand why Z or Clement werent brought in from the BP against the Marlins, and instead we used Dave Veres gahhhhhh

Randall Simon is still playing? I didn't know that. Man, what a huge boost he was that year.

I'm pretty sure he is out of baseball as well, he's not on the Phillies 40 man. Remlinger is retired too.

Clement pitched in 2004 for us too and had a good first half before he fell off the charts in the 2nd half. He was even shut down in September and Glendon Rusch picked up the 5th starter duties in the stretch run.

If i'm remembering correctly, Clement was having a lot of back problems near the end of the '04 season and was pretty ineffective and even lost his rotation spot to Glendon Rusch at the end.

[ahh Flames beat me]

Carlos Zambrano, Mark Prior, Matt Clement, and...I believe Shawn Estes/Juan Cruz?

That team really wasn't that good. Their pitching carried them and Alou, Sosa, and A-Ram carried the offense. The 2004 team was much better. That was probably the most talented Cubs team assembled in a very long time. Patterson, Alou, Sosa, Nomar (at least at the deadline), A-Ram, Lee, Walker/Grudz, Barrett. I mean, jeez, A-Ram was our 6 hitter and Barrett our 8th hitter.

We had Z, Prior, Wood, Clement, and Maddux. Signed KENT to bolster the bullpen. That team had so much freakin talent. It's unbelievable to me how they didn't win 100+ games and the World Series.

He got off to a good start with the Red Sox in 05, but had another awful 2nd half. And then last year, he got hit in the face. He's never really recovered from that.

And he's recovering from a shoulder surgery right now. Last I read they are hoping to get him back from the bullpen before the end of the season.

I love how the '04 mission statement was to take the '03 team and make it stronger, and by '05, Zamrano and Ramirez were the only players remaining from that team, unless you count Prior and Wood as still being on the team.

Clement was never really very good before the Cubs got him. He was considered an underachiever with more talent than he was showing. He was very good for the Cubs in 2003 and part of 2004 and has been hampered by injuries since then.

To be fair, 2003 and and 2004 weren't his only good seasons. His 2002 with the Cubs was better than 2003.

Oops; I meant to say 2002 and 2003. I was referring to his first two years with the Cubs, but I was a year off on my thinking about when the Cubs acquired him.
