Why is he not playing?

Any ideas.

A trade maybe.

Lou may not like him.

Also if this turns out to be alot about trades, mods please move.

We just won 6-0. We have been playing great baseball without Murton. Who cares about Murton at this point?

I asked Murton about a month ago when he was playing for Iowa how he liked playing for Lou, he responded by saying "It's different....it's cool." He didn't seem very enthused when I asked him the question.

Namely because the people getting playing time instead of him(Floyd and Fontenot) are not hitting at all.

Unless Murton's going to be dealt to get a serious bat, he deserves a chance to play in right every single day.

I don't understand how everyone says Floyd isn't hitting? He's been one of our best hitters with RISP.

Floyd is not an everyday player if for no other reason because of his health, or lack there of.

Everyone is saying he will get some starts on the next homestand because the Cubs are supposed to face 3 lefties. Of course, that's assuming he isn't traded by Tuesday. It would be nice to give him a chance against both kinds of pitchers for a couple of weeks, but it won't happen.

a 754 OPS from our "power hitting" corner OF is pretty much unacceptable.

Worthless stat. Floyd has been a bottom feeder as far as corner outfielders go.

Wich means Lou clearly doesn't like Murton, is he suposed to start tomorrow?

Yes, Murton is supposed to start tomorrow.

On another note, do you post about topics that aren't Matt Murton?

Do you mean start threads or just plain post, I post about everything but most threads I start are regarding Murton.

Why such the love fest with Murton? He is a nice player, but nothing special. Hell DeRosa plays a lot better right field then Murton and I would rather have DeRosa at the plate with the game on the line than Murton! Unless there is a lefty on the mound I would rather have Fontenot at the plate as well.

If a lefty was on the hill, I bet we would have seen Murton in right and DeRosa at second.

Murton is only hitting 237 against right handers this year and Fontenot is hitting 346.

For all the stat guys that is an easy call!

I love the Cubs, not just Murton. Mostly anything else not regarding Murton is started by someone else anyway so I just start threads when I have questons regarding Murton.

The way Fontenot has been hitting lately I'd rather have Ryan Dempster at the plate than Fontenot.
Dempster I'm not sure about. Zambrano, unquestionably yes. :D

Well yeah....that one is obvious.

That aren't a lot of "stat guys" that put more emphasis on a couple hundred ABs than on years of ABs that say Murton has a much better chance to be a good ML hitter.

According to MLB.com, Matt Murton was supposed to start Sunday, but was scratched because manager Lou Piniella felt he had too many right-handed bats in the lineup and wanted to insert at least one lefty.

OK, sure. Anyone want to predict Monday's excuse will be? We're guessing it'll be something along the lines of Cole Hamels never having allowed a hit to a guy with red hair.

LOL...we had two lefty bats that went a combined 0-10.

Murton is getting screwed again.

Floyd is fair at best at the plate, atrocious in the OF, and hurt alot.

Fontenot should be battling Theriot for time in the middle INF, but Theriot is apparently untouchable.

DeRosa deserves a spot, and he should get it... in the INF. Take time from Font/Theriot and spell Lee or Aramis once a week or something.

This is a problem that will cost us games soon, unless we get a legit OF from a trade.

Even if you're winning now, having huge holes at C and RF/CF will get you. Take it to the bank.
