Jacque has definitely looked better. I kind of laughed at that soft blooper right to where the SS normally stands, and his subsequent finger pointing that he seems to do every time he reaches base right now. But if he can maintain this trend he might make his overall numbers look better than atrocious eventually.

For the record, I still have high hopes for Pie so I'd like to see him get right and then come back and start contributing.

Pie's July OPS: 1.104; 6 HRs

I'm not sure how much more right you want him to get. He has no business being in AAA anymore unless we're trying to change his approach (he doesn't take walks - but I don't think he will, I wish he did, but so it goes).

BTW - I'm not trying to attack you, you're making some good points (though I don't agree). I just feel the need to point out what I perceive to be errors in your arguments.

I agree Pie is tearing up AAA, but it's kinda hard taking out JJ at this point in time...

I'm not overly excited about Jacque right now. Sure he has put up amazing numbers this month, but they are very hollow looking to me. He seems to be hitting everything on the ground still and they are finding holes that they didn't find in the 1st 3 months of the season. His BABIP has to be extremely high right now. And his ISOP is barely over .100.

I don't think he will be as unlucky as he was the 1st half, but he won't be as lucky as he has been in July. The question is does the happy medium equal good enough production? With his lack of power this year, Jacque is looking at a low .700 OPS if things even out.

Trade him. Move him to RF and sit Floyd.

With Pie proving not to be completely ready, like it or not, Jones has really helped this team in CF and with his stick. His July #'s are great. I'm certainly not against trading him, but we'll need a CF in exchange...

Oh my God. We are doing GREAT! Jones is playing great. We are 2.0 games behind the Brewers and 0.5 games behind the Padres in the wild card. And people are arguing why or why not Lou is great or lucky!? Can you all just get along and celebrate how well your team is doing for once, opposed to getting in little nerdy "I'm right, you're wrong, I said, no you said it like this" hissy fits?

Yeah, who wants to have an interesting discussion, anyway.

NEW RULES FOR TIM TO ADD TO THE GUIDELINES

1.) Whenever the Cubs are winning a game, no one is allowed to post. You just have to sit at home and enjoy the lead.

1a.) If the Cubs are winning a game, you are not allowed to post. If the opposing team ties the game up, posting will be allowed when the opposing team has runners in scoring position, or when the Cubs are at bat with two outs and no one on base.

1b.) If the Cubs come from behind to tie up a game that they were previously losing, posting is not allowed under any circumstances until the opposing team takes a lead.

I thought the discussion was refreshingly civil, actually 8-)

Anybody think it might be a position thing with Jones?

.275/.341/.783 as a center fielder with very few AB's vs. LHP.

Look what happened with Soriano when he returned to a more comfortable defensive position.

If nothing else, Jones' recent success should make him easier to trade.

Maybe Lou wasn't called an idiot in the literal sense, but it was clearly alluded to the first two months of the season, along with the alluding to showing up at wrigley with pitchforks, demanding that Jim Hendry come out from behind his desk so he could be lynched.

A little credit where credit is due would be nice once in a while, that's all I'm saying.

Why does Lou deserve credit? Unless he suggested something to JJ that changed his approach or something, I think the credit goes to JJ for having a great month. Of course, if I'm going to tell JJ "great job in July" I also get to tell him "you sucked hard in June...and May...and you were bad in April too."

To be fair, Lou supposedly changed Jacque's swing near the end of June, so there potentially could be credit to Lou for that.

Jacque still needs the power to come around, but I really like what I am seeing in other areas of his game. Some sharp hits to the opposite field, walks, and not looking completely helpless against the left-handed relievers he has been facing recently. He still does his ground it to first or second a lot, but the shortening of his swing may have helped cause his strikeouts to go down (4 in 45 AB's this month, and 6 BB's).

I don't think it's just luck that has propelled him into this streak-it's a definite change in his approach (although he lapses back at times and has some pretty bad swings, he was doing that every swing earlier in the year). I have absolutely no idea if he'll go right back to what he was doing whenever he struggles though, so I'm not sure if he can sustain this production or not.

It could switch off like a light, I'm just enjoying what he's giving us know and praying it continues.

I did rather enjoy his catch in CF last night on Pujols. =D>

if jock could put up numbers in line with his career norms, and Murton were playing RF and putting up numbers like last year, the Cubs offense would be fine.

Agreed. We really just need steady play from that position.

I dunno guys, I think it was pretty obvious that Jones was going to heat up at some point. He's a decent ballplayer. I've been saying this for a while now, am I lucky or a genius?
