Wow, Inman's one of their stud prospects, isn't he?

I've always liked Linebrink, hopefully he falls off a cliff in the second half.

EDIT: From BA's handbook this year.

Inman is #3, Thatcher is #23, and Garrison is #27

That's quite the haul for Towers, he is owning the trade market this year.

Thanks for the heads up Reds.

Don't know who the Brewer's gave up, so i'm assuming they aren't too special. Seems like a decent deal for them, but it' not like this is the move that will give them any edges or anything obviously.

Does Inman start?

jsonline.com[/url]"]The Brewers showed they are serious about going for the playoffs this year by trading three minor league pitchers, including a top prospect, to San Diego today for relief pitcher Scott Linebrink.

Linebrink, who will be 31 on Aug. 4, is considered one of the top setup men in the National League. In 44 games for the Padres this season, he is 3-3 with a 3.80 ERA, with one save. He is expected to join the Brewers Friday in St. Louis.

To acquire Linebrink, the Brewers traded right-hander Wil Inman and left-handers Steve Garrison and Joe Thatcher. Inman, a third-round draft pick in 2005, was ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the Brewers' farm system by Baseball America magazine. Thatcher was ranked 23rd and Garrison 27th.

He is a big prospect of theirs, but I believe he's struggled a bit since moving up to AA a couple of months ago. But, he still young. I think he is only 19 or 20.

LHP Joe Thatcher (25 years old)

AA: 1-0, .55 ERA, 14 G, 16.1 IP, 20/2 K/BB, 0 HR, .75 GO/FO, .193 BAA

AAA: 2-1, 2.08 ERA, 24 G, 21.2 IP, 1 SV, 33/7 K/BB, 0 HR, .88 GO/GO, .226 BAA

RHP Will Inman (20 years old)

A+: 4-3, 1.72 ERA, 13 GS, 78.2 IP, 98/23 K/BB, 4 HR, .89 GO/FO, .198 BAA

AA: 1-5, 5.45 ERA, 8 GS, 39.2 IP, 42/16 K/BB, 7 HR, 1.45 GO/FO, .259 BAA

LHP Steve Garrison (20 years old)

A+: 8-4, 3.44 ERA, 20 GS, 104.2 IP, 74/28 K/BB, 6 HR, 1.04 GO/FO, .253 BAA

Inman's clearly the best pitcher they gave up, but Garrison seems like he could be a decent starter in a few years and Thatcher probably could contribute to the Padres' bullpen immediately.

I'm not a huge Linebrink fan, so I'm going to give the edge to the Padres on this deal.

FYI, Inman ranked #3 on the BA prospect list for the Brewers, behind only Gallardo and Braun.

Will Inman, RHP

Born: Feb. 6, 1987 • B-T: R-R • Ht: 6-0 • Wt: 200

Drafted: HS--Dry Fork, Va., 2005 (3rd round) • Signed by: Grant Brittain

Background: After leading Tunstall High to back-to-back Virginia state titles and setting the state record for strikeouts, Inman spurned an Auburn commitment to sign for $500,000. He followed a strong pro debut in 2005 by posting the second-best ERA in the minors. He didn't give up a run in 15 of his 23 outings at low Class A West Virginia.

Strengths: Inman isn't overpowering, but he can consistently command his 89-92 mph fastball for strikes in any part of the zone. He stays ahead in the count and complements his fastball with a two-plane slurve that he's trying to develop into a more conventional curveball. He began using his changeup more last season. He is a fiery competitor.

Weaknesses: Inman missed a month last season with a sore shoulder, perhaps because he three too many breaking balls. He has eliminated much of the effort in his delivery and stayed on a straighter line to the plate, mechanical adjustments the Brewers hope will relieve some stress on his arm. He's not projectable and probably won't develop plus velocity, and he needs to refine his secondary pitches.

The Future: Any worries Milwaukee had about Inman's sore shoulder were quieted when he didn't allow an earned run in his first five outings after coming off the disabled list. He has the stuff and aggressiveness to move quickly, and he'll pitch at high Class A Brevard County as a 20-year-old.
