Bruce Levine was hosting CBT with J Hood tonight and he ended the show saying that the Cubs were looking at Craig Monroe, but Detroit wanted Michael Wuertz in return, so the Cubs called it off. Levine still said that the Cubs are trying to get a right handed outfielder.

Not even sure what hole we are replacing with Craig Monroe in the first place...

Why in the world would Hendry be interested in Monroe and his .672 OPS? There would be no reason to give up anyone with any value at all for him. Please don't even bother with extremely mediocre options like this, JH.

Hopefully all the crappy trade proposals keep getting shot down so that all that is left for Hendry to do is accidentally have a good one with someone who plays outfield for the Reds.

Darn, if only we had a 25-year-old in the minors who has a full season experience in the majors.

I'm all for getting a RF reasonably with a little pop or something. A guy like Nady or even taking a chance on a Jermaine Dye who had a 1.000 OPS last year and is just struggling this year in hopes that he would turn it around. But unless the sole purpose of getting a guy like Monroe is to add someone off the bench who is at least a threat to go deep, Murton is the better answer.

Who can play an acceptable right field!

Because we certainly don't have that.

We have a left fielder who has a cannon for an arm yet doesn't move to right even though he was signed to play right.

Did I miss this? I don't remember Soriano ever being signed to play right field. I remember it being a possibility, but signed for it? I certainly don't recall.

I might be wrong, but I don't think Soriano was signed to play RF, considering he's never played there in his MLB career.

Sorry, was signed and they planned him to play RF. Then it was center then they decided to move him to left and throw the whole outfield into a major problem defensively.

I'm only 20, my memory can't be that bad. I recall him being signed to play left, then center, then left again.

I don't know if it was ever officially said, Right field but Bruce Miles said right field I know for a fact.

Yeah, Bruce said right field, and I'm inclined to believe him on that account.

At any rate, using somebody with Soriano's skillset outside of CF or RF is about as dumb as it gets... especially when failure to do so relegates a cheap and effective player to AAA duty because he has no position to play.

There were conflicting reports. Alot of newspaper outlets flew with one positoin (don't remember which), but Bruce was on here and said the opposite. I don't even remember who was right.

I believe Bruce reported here that Soriano was signed to play right.

He was signed to play outfield. It may have been with the intention of playing right, but I'm sure it was understood all along that it was subject to change depending on whether Pie was ready. All along the plan was for Murton/Floyd in left field, but I remember discussion of who among Soriano and Jones would play right and who would play center if Pie wasn't ready.

I think Soriano was signed because Hendrys job was on the line and he needed to make a big free agent splash. Where he would play was just an afterthought.
