I've read some posters here who would like to see the Cubs bring Lofton back for another playoff run. He's having a pretty solid yr. and brings a bit of a swagger with him. Lofton will likely cost a lot due to his season and intangibles, so what about Dave Roberts as an option? He's not having that good of a yr., but he was coming off an injury and he was above avg. the last few yrs. in San Diego. He brings speed, has a decent career obp and can start in center or come off the bench for PH and PR. He'll cost less than Lofton and could be a decent alternative. SF is going nowhere this yr., so he will likely be in the mix for playoff contending teams.

all things considered, i'd rather have jones in center than roberts. if jones regresses to his first half form, call up pie.

Under contract for two more years after this one.

Not realistic.

My bad--I thought he signed a 2yr. contract. I was thinking he could serve as the CF this yr. and a 4th outfielder next--but a 3yr deal makes a deal for Roberts a real bad idea.

No wonder everyone is trying to get Lofton. Texas will get some good prospects for him. For Gagne as well.

I'm not sure Texas will be able to get really good prospects for him. He'll be a three month rental for whoever gets him, so that alone will lower his value considerably.

It's in Texas' best interest to trade him and there's no reason for them to keep him, so they have little leverage in the matter.

I don't really see a place for Roberts on our team right now. We still have to make room for Lee and Ward, probably sending Fox and Moore down, and Dempster (Gallagher/Petrick) and hopefully Kerry. We would have an outfield of Soriano, Jones, and Floyd (if he gets healthy) with Ward, Pagan and DeRosa able to play OF.

Lee's already on the roster (suspended players are still on the roster), so nobody will need to be sent down when he returns. And Dempster was already activated before Friday's game (Gallagher was sent down).

I don't have any idea of his availability or contract, but if we're getting an old OF from SF I'd rather have Winn.

We should get Jose Hernandez and Bobby Hill back and package them for Lofton. Who was the other guy? Matt Bruback I believe? I guess we can include him, too.

Only if Pittsburgh will include a good power hitter like Aramis like we got in that deal.

Hmm. Jason Bay?

Bruback it was. I don't know if he's still even in baseball.
