I agree. Since Derosa will be starting at 1B this weekend for the remainder of Lee's suspension and Izzy is no longer a Cub, middle infield is the critical need since, without Cedeno, the Cubs now have no backup middle IF.

Well, that makes a little bit of sense. Moore's the primary backup at 3B with Theriot, Fontenot, and DeRosa all starting in the infield, and he replaces Ward's LH bat and 1B capability, plus he's absolutely torching the ball right now(6 HR in his last 6 games).

I guess that Lou has more faith in Derosa at SS than I thought. Because I'm fairly sure that he has no faith in Fontenot there. Pretty strange, maybe Cedeno is in serious trade talks?

I wouldn't read anything into this with regards to Cedeno. DeRosa is the only guy active that can play 1B.(Obviously, anyone can stand at 1st and not be horrendous, but he's the only guy they feel comfortable with there.) Having somebody else to stick at 1B is important when the guy playing 1B is also a backup at 4 other positions.
