Those numbers are ridiculous.

Yeah, and it has been odd out there lately. Iowa lost 8 in a row, then won 4 in a row, then lost 3 in a row (all 1 run games) and now has won 2 in a row (blowouts).

September Callups might be a much bigger added success to this season than in the past.

Indeed. Cedeno has been a monster at Iowa as well, but that has proved to be little motivation to bring him up so far.

If they don't come up before then I hope the Cubs bring Cedeno, Murton, and Pie up by the Aug. 31 deadline for postseason eligibility (assuming they're still in contention). If necessary, put Jones, Izturis, ane Floyd/Pagan on the DL with phantom "injuries" to make room. That would give the Cubs a lot of postseason flexibility, because the players on the DL and the players called up to replace them would all be eligible for postseason. At least in the case of Floyd, it's almost a given that he'll have some nagging injury that would make a trip to the DL credible anyway.

Why Pagan? I really think he has proven himself as a valuable part-time / spot-start player. I hate to say it, as a big fan of Murton's, but he has contributed more than Matt has...

There would be more scrutiny in this case, but couldn't the phantom injury come before the playoff rosters were set so they could get on?

Yes they could, come to think of it.

Over the last month Pagan is 13/54, .241/.268/.389/.657. He's not very valuable.

If only the Cubs had ready replacements for Jones and Izturis in their minor league system, they'd be pretty good offensively...

The problem is that both Floyd and Jones are blocking Murton. Even if Jacque is traded, Matt's still screwed.

the cubs are really working with many chips this season, which should enable them to, if smart, go far into the post-season. too bad hendry doesn't get it sometimes...

The fact that Pagan starts every day over Pie is a freakin joke. A disgrace.

Yeah, we really need to get off this Pagan dependence in CF. It's going to come back to bite us sooner rather than later.

We have, now we have the mighty JJ, who ironically and strangely enough is doing well. Than again so is K. Hill.

I'll have what you're smoking, unless that 704 July OPS is "doing well"

puff, puff, pass -- don't confuse 1 good game with doing well

Actually it's two good games. Don't forget his dinger Monday night.

Does anyone know if Pie is continuing the "timing toe-tap" that the big league club had him add? It seems like Lou took exception to Murton's swing (and the refusal to change) and relegated him to AAA. I am wondering if Pie is in the same boat?

yeah, that seven hop chopper he hit off klesko's leg showed me he's ready to go on a tear.

seriously though, i feel bad for jones, and it was nice to see him act like he wasn't on the verge of tears for once.

the fact of the matter is, you have 6 guys that are playing down in iowa that are playing better than players on our roster, and could no doubt contribute.

Petrick -> Eyre

Pignatello -> Ohman

Cedeno -> Izturis

Pie -> Pagan

Murton -> Jones, Floyd

Soto -> Hill, Kendall

It really saddens me that its come to this. While it's not as bad as say, playing neifi and macias over other players like in years past, its certainly doing nothing good for the team. The mere fact that we are winning with these 8 players getting regular playing time is remarkable.

We gotta change this.

it couldn't be that these guys are all "better" than their major league counterparts because they've not been given enough of a chance to fail at the big league level, could it?
