i don't know about anyone else, but i'm never paying money to subscribe to a brewers message board. i don't think pimping premium to brewers fans will work.

Agreed...but it doesn't hurt. I think we have a couple of premium members that are Cardinal fans.

I didn't say that, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't imply that I did.

With all due respect to the Brewers fans, and I do respect the Brewers and their fans and how they built their team. It's really something to envy, but certain Brewers fans over there say that we can't make fun of the Brewers for futility because our futility is worse. Now this season may wipe this point away, but going into this season, that is in no way true.

While compared to teams like the Yankees and Cardinals our futility may look the same, when you compare in a smaller circle, the Brewers have had the much worse history.

Last playoff series win: Brewers - 1982, Cubs - 2003

Last playoff appearence: Brewers - 1982, Cubs - 2003

Number of playoff appearences since 1980: Brewers - 2, Cubs - 4

Last winning season: Brewers - 1992 (2005 doesn't count, they finished .500), Cubs - 2004

Last World Series - Brewers - 1982, Cubs - 1945 (OK thats one futile mark).

But again, to any Brewer fans reading this, I realize there are reasons why this is the case (higher payroll being a huge one). I'm just saying that compared to the Brewers, we look like a mildly successful franchise.

And for the record, we care much more about the Cardinals and then White Sox than we ever will about you guys, unless we are competing in the division race like this year. But I hope for a good race in the coming months! Hopefully your futility is changing for the better, and if the Cubs fall short, I will be rooting for the Brewers in the playoffs. You guys deserve it.

I've never had any disdain for the Brewers or their fans...but now that I think of it...other than the two really cool Brewer fans I met outside Wrigley last summer that helped me hold seats for people during our meet-up, I've never really met any Brewer fans.

It's hard to really, really get involved in the rivalry when you don't know anyone who is a Brewer fan....

now fans of the "home team"...that's a group I can despise.

I did a summer internship in Milwaukee back in 1998, and I loved the atmosphere in and around County Stadium. I much preferred it to Miller Park. If there's another team in the central I root for, it's the Brewers (when they're not playing the Cubs and when we're not in a division race with them).

i don't care about the white sox

I can honestly say I've paid more attention to the Brewers this year than to the Sox and Cards combined.

Wrong as you are about the Kendall trade, I definitely agree with you about this.

County Stadium > Miller Park.

When Miller Park was being built, I thought it would be wonderful, but out of all the parks I've visited, it's my least favorite. It feels sterile and characterless. It's the United Center of ballparks.

You don't live in Chicago. I'm more referring to the fact that the Brewers consider us their arch rivals, and most Cubs fans don't even refer to the Brewers as anything more then they do Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Houston

It's easier for the Brewers to identify with the Cubs as their new arch-rival since they just switched from the American League to the National League in 1998. They have very little history of playing any of the teams in the NL at all, and the Cubs are their closest geographic opponent. Previously, the Brewers had real rivalries with the White Sox and Twins.

The Cubs, on the other hand, have a long-standing rivalry with the Cards and Pirates from the NL East and had played the other teams in the new Central division from '94 to '97 without the Brewers. It's tough for a fan base to develop a new feeling of rivalry amid such long-standing enmity.

For me, the switch to 3 divisions was tough because it was great to hate the Mets and Phillies. I loved the old East -- Cubs, Cards, Expos, Mets, Phillies, Pirates (and Marlins for one season). I grant that Cincy and Atlanta in the West made no sense.

well don't worry, the brewers are gonna be good for the next five years, so you'll get used to thinking of them as a rival

Unless we're not good.

I picked him up the day he came up from the minors because my fantasy 3rd baseman was an atrocity wrapped in a disaster inside a shambles. He's been absolutely tremendous for me, and I look back fondly at that day.

I don't like the way his face takes up about 80% of the photo, though, but that's no reason to hate him. At least he doesn't have Tallest-Man-In-The-World face syndrome like Hunter Pence.

No offense to Jews or anything (I am 50% Jewish)

I didn't know it was possible to be 50% Jewish. I thought 100% or 0%.

I hate Ryan Braun because he played college ball at the University of Miami.

I have yet to see a likable athlete come from that school.

Devin Hester?

Fine, as a general rule, I despise athletes who come from the University of Miami. I'll allow one or two exceptions. :P

With all the talk about the Cubs doing something at the trade deadline, I wonder if the Brewers will do something to counter any moves by the Cubs?

I actually like the Brewers team. It's the kind of team I've been hoping the Cubs would put together. Build the team from within and fill holes with complementary young veterans.

It should be a fun race the rest of the way.

I used to live with a guy who claimed to be two quarters Jewish. If I recall, if the mother is Jewish the child is Jewish, and it was his maternal and paternal grandfathers who were jews.

The guy was a tool, though, so I didn't pay too much attention to him.
