As expected, Kerry Wood got the start for Mesa!!! He faced 3 batters in his one inning of pitching and struck all 3 of them out. Jose Ceda has now relieved him.

AZL Giants Top 1st

* Skyler Stromsmoe strikes out swinging.

* Nicholas Noonan strikes out swinging.

* Angel Villalona strikes out swinging.

Ceda: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3 K/2 BB. I'm guessing he reached his pitch count and couldn't finish two full innings.

Cliff Andersen isn't in the lineup for the third straight game. I wonder if he got hurt again.

Thanks for Wood outing, nice to see him actually healthy enough to pitch to hitters.

And thanks for the Boise/Fleita article. I found three parts interesting:

*The view that they don't want to promote a guy who might react negatively to failure. That may perhaps speak to how they feel about Colvin?

*The preference to keep guys where they are.

*The concept that skipping a level is not a problem. I really agree with that. Wright is probably a guy you'd want at Daytona next year. Does it matter whether he plays August in Boise or in Peoria? Probably not. He'll likely be equally able or equally challenged by Daytona next spring. Several of the Boise boys have a shot to skip to Daytona next spring, I'd think. But barring challenges in getting people game action, I doubt it matters whether they finish in Peoria or Boise.

Murton with a solo HR and Iowa is up 1-0 early.

Good luck Mark. Don't pitch to Upton.

Unfortunately, he forgot to follow your advice. :( Gave up a three run shot to Upton with two outs. Ouch.

Felix with one too.

Somebody's in the mood to show he has nothing left to prove in AAA.

And now Scott Moore with a solo HR - that's 3 consecutive innings with one for the I-Cubs.

Wade Miller will be rehabbing with the Chiefs tomorrow, he's expected to throw about 40-45 pitches.

Trade bait?

there's desperate, then there's inquiring about wade miller

ugh, ronny just grounds into an inning-ending DP with the bases loaded and 1 out. Patterson is 3-4, Pie 1-3 with a homer, walk and two strikeouts. Mathes had a perfect game through four but gave up two runs that inning... Iowa should be well ahead in this game but have blown too many opportunities.

Leon Johnson with some ridiculous numbers for Mesa. Already with 5 triples in only 66 at-bats.

Tennessee goes down by one in the ninth after a solid start (8 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 2 HR) by Holliman, but then Jake Fox hits a 3-run walkoff with 2 out in the ninth to give the Smokies a 7-5 win! He finishes the game 3-5 with a triple short of the cycle, and 5 RBI.

Thats not even funny in the slightest. Miller hopefully is done with the big league club. Maybe he will hit 85 on the gun tomorrow
