Wade Miller will be rehabbing with the Chiefs tomorrow, he's expected to throw about 40-45 pitches.

ugh, what's the point

hopefully to take a rotation spot in Chicago 8-)

Thats not even funny in the slightest. Miller hopefully is done with the big league club. Maybe he will hit 85 on the gun tomorrow

Keep in mind Nathan is a Cardinals fan. :pukel:

IowaCubs.com"]Cubs Fall 5-4 in 15 Innings Saturday

Omaha Wins Third Straight One-Run Game

By Deene Ehlis / http://www.iowacubs.com

Iowa dropped their third straight one run game in Omaha Saturday night, losing 5-4 in 15 innings. It was the longest game of the season for innings and for time, 4:31.

The Cubs built an early 4-0 lead on solo homers by Matt Murton, Felix Pie and Scott Moore, plus a Josh Kroeger RBI single. Omaha was held hitless by J.R. Mathes for the first 4 innings, but scored twice in the 5th and tied the game in the 6th on a Craig Brazell two run homer, his 24th homerun of the season.

The Royals also came within one double play of tieing the PCL record of 7 as they finished with 6, many turned in a spectacular fashion. The Cubs left 15 on base for the game.

The Royals won the game in the 15th on consecutive singles by Chris Lubanski, Derek Wathan and Mitch Maier to load the bases with nobody out. The Wathan and Maier hits were bunts. After Shane Costa struck out, Mike Aviles hit the game winning single for Omaha. Geoff Jones took the loss, he's now 0-2. Jones also lost the 11 inning game Thursday in Omaha.

The Royals winning pitcher was Jason Shiell, now 1-3. The Royals bullpen hurled 10 1/3 scoreless innings Saturday and for the series, 19 1/3 scoreless against the Cubs.

Buck Coats was one for 5 to extend his hitting streak to 19 games.

Cubs manager Buddy Bailey on the loss, "This is a group thing, it's not just one area, or one person, everybody has chances to change this game around tonight and we just didn't get it done."

SmokiesBaseball.com"]Fox's walk-off home run gives Smokies 7-5 win

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Smokies first baseman Jake Fox did it all tonight for the Smokies, driving in five runs on the night, including a game winning three-run homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth to give the Smokies an exciting 7-5 win. The crowd of 5,461 jumped to their feet as Tennessee won an exciting contest.

Unlike the last two nights, the Smokies jumped out to the early lead in their half of the first inning on Saturday night. After a Sam Fuld groundout, Jemel Spearman reached first on a throwing error by Wilkin Castillo. Matt Craig walked, which was followed by a hard hit double to the right center field wall by Fox. Spearman scored on the play, and the Smokies had a 1-0 lead.

The BayBears got their offense going in the top of the third inning to grab the lead. With Emilio Bonafacio and Wilkin Castillo already on base, highly touted Diamondbacks prospect Justin Upton crushed a mammoth home run to deep left center field off Smokies starter Mark Holliman to give Mobile a 3-1 lead.

Tennessee fought back in the bottom half of the third to get back into the contest. After Fuld walked, Spearman ripped a triple to the left center field wall to bring Fuld home. Matt Craig was unable to bring Spearman home, but Fox singled to left to bring him across the plate and tie the game at 3-3.

Mobile regained the lead the next inning on a solo home run by Chris Rahl to make the score 4-3. Tennessee tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth, thanks to an RBI fielder’s choice credited to Fuld to score Jorge Cortes, who walked and stole second in the inning.

The game remained tied through the ninth inning, thanks largely in part to a great pitching effort by Holliman. After surrendering the home run to Rahl, Holliman settled in and pitched four scoreless innings, going eight innings overall. Rocky Roquet (2-0) came on in the ninth inning in relief, and ran into a few problems. After striking out Carlos Gonzalez, Roquet allowed a walk to Rahl, who then stole second and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice. A wild pitch by Roquet scored Rahl, and suddenly the Smokies were down 5-4 going into the bottom of the ninth.

That’s when the excitement really happened. With one out, Fuld singled up the middle to get the rally going off BayBears reliever A.J. Shappi (1-4). Spearman drilled a liner hard off his bat, but right at the second baseman Bonifacio for the second out. Craig walked to put runners at first and second, which brought Fox to the plate. Fox tattooed the first pitch from Shappi over the Tennessee State Park party deck, which brought an enthusiastic crowd to their feet.

With the win, the Smokies improved to 12-12 for the second half of the season, and stayed just one game back of first place in the North Division. Mobile fell to 11-13 with the loss.

DaytonaCubs.com"]Cubs Make Five Errors in 12-10 Loss to Lakeland

Reynolds' Grand Slam Not Enough

By: Dan Watson

[LAKELAND, FL] Sloppy defense led to a loss for the Daytona Cubs Saturday at Joker Marchant Stadium. The Cubs made five errors as the Lakeland Flying Tigers topped Daytona in a wild one, 12-10.

The Cubs led for much of Saturday's game, but Michael Hernandez's three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Flying Tigers to the win. Hernandez went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Kyle Reynolds hit a grand slam for the Cubs and Alan Rick went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and three RBIs. Chris Walker also had three hits in the loss.

The Flying Tigers jumped on a leadoff walk in the first inning to take a 1-0 advantage. Will Rhymes took the free pass and moved to second on an infield single by Justin Justice. The runners sped to second and third on a double steal and Rhymes later scored on an RBI groundout by Michael Hernandez.

Daytona got its first hit and its first run in the top of the third. Matt Matulia started the frame with a double down the left-field line, then stole third base. Jesus Valdez walked to put runners at the corners. Mark Reed legged out an infield single to knock Matulia home and knot the score at 1-1. Then, Chris Walker dropped a bunt down the third-base line to load the bases with nobody out. Lakeland starter Burke Badenhop induced a flyout for the first out of the inning, but Kyle Reynolds made sure Badenhop wouldn't slide off the hook. The Daytona third baseman belted a grand slam over the wall in right field to give the Cubs a 5-1 advantage.

Lakeland scored five runs of their own in the bottom of the third with the help of sloppy defensive play by the Cubs. Daytona made four errors in the frame. Rhymes reached on an error by the shortstop to start the inning and went to third on a single by Justin Justice. With runners at first and third, a grounder to third was booted, which allowed Rhymes to score and Justice to go to third. Then, a pickoff throw to first got away, allowing Justice to score to score the seond run of the inning. Michael Hernandez singled to right field, putting runners at the corners again. Wilkin Ramirez followed by blooping an RBI single to right, and the ball was mishandled to allow both runners to move into scoring position with the Tigers trailing 5-4. Max Leon kept the rally going with another single to right field, plating two and putting Lakeland on top, 6-5. At that point, Scott Taylor relieved Santo. Taylor gave up a single to Ovandy Suero, but then induced a double play and a flyout to end the inning with no further damage.

Lakeland extended the lead in the fifth, but again Taylor avoided heavy losses. Hernandez doubled to the gap in left-center and went to third on a single by Ramirez. Leon lifted a sacrifice fly into right field to score Hernandez and give the Flying Tigers a 7-5 lead.

The Cubs cut into the deficit in the sixth inning. Alan Rick and Yusuf Carter stroked back-to-back singles to start the frame, and Matt Matulia's sacrifice bunt moved them to second and third. An RBI groundout by Jesus Valdez plated Rick to cut the lead to 7-6.

Daytona kept the momentum going in the seventh to take the lead with a four-run frame. Nate Spears laid down a bunt for a leadoff base hit and moved to second when Reynolds reached on catcher's interference. Ryan Harvey grounded a ball to third base, but Spears beat the third baseman to the bag and the bases were loaded with nobody out. Rick stepped up and yanked a bases-clearing triple down the right-field line to give Daytona a 9-7 lead. Two batters later, Matulia plated Rick with a sacrifice fly to left field, and the Cubs led, 10-7.

The slugfest continued in the Lakeland half of the seventh as the Flying Tigers cut it to 10-8. Wilkin Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice and scored when Max Leon doubled down the left-field line with two out.

Another Daytona error in the eighth opened the door for more Lakeland runs. Rafael Mendez reached on an error to start the inning. A single by Joel Roa and a base-hit bunt by Rhymes loaded the bases with nobody out. Darin Downs induced a double play, but a run scored to cut the edge to 10-9. Tim Layden came in from the bullpen and walked Danny Worth on four pitches. Hernandez followed by clobbering a three-run home run to left to give Lakeland a 12-10 advantage.

Layden (1-4) took the loss for Daytona. The Cubs are now 10-13 in the second half. Wise (1-1) picked up the win for Lakeland and Dolsi notched his 16th save as the Flying Tigers improved to 9-10.

PeoriaChiefs.com"]Chiefs Fall to Swing Again, 8-5

Davenport, IA – The Peoria Chiefs scored four times in the first inning but fell to the Swing of the Quad Cities 8-5 Saturday night at John O’Donnell Stadium. The loss, their third straight, knocks the Chiefs one half game behind Quad Cities in the standings at 12-10 on the half.

Both teams put runs on the board in the first inning as the Chiefs jumped all over Swing starter Shaun Garceau. Ryne Malone led off with a single up the middle and scored when Jim Adduci doubled off the centerfield wall. Josh Lansford sacrificed Adduci to third and the Chiefs took a 2-0 lead when Garceau dropped the ball at the plate allowing Adduci to score from third. With Derek Schermerhorn at second, Blake Lalli singled to center for his 17th RBI of the season. Lalli advanced to second on the throw home and scored moments later on a Brian Leclerc single for a 4-0 Chiefs lead. Nate Samson followed with an infield single but Leclerc was caught in a rundown between third and home and tagged out to end the inning.

Quad Cities leadoff man Daryl Jones singled off Chiefs starter Jake Renshaw and stole second in the bottom of the first. With one out, Tony Cruz singled to left as Jones scored to cut the lead to 4-1.

The Chiefs lead evaporated in the third as the Swing played home run derby for the second night in a row. With one out, Jared Schweitzer golfed an ankle high pitch over the left field wall for a solo shot, his ninth of the season. Tony Cruz followed with a long homer that one-hopped the scoreboard in left-center to cut the Chiefs lead to 4-3. Steven Hill singled to center and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a groundout, Hill tied the game when he scored on another wild pitch. Nick Derba reached on an infield single and Renshaw hit Tim Dorn with a pitch. Jose Ramirez gave Quad Cities their first lead of the game with a single to left for a 5-4 advantage before Renshaw got out of the inning.

The Swing extended their lead against reliever Michael Bartek in the fourth. Jones led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch for a 6-4 Swing lead. Bartek walked Schweitzer and with one out, Cruz doubled to left-center. Christian Reyes put the Swing up 8-4 with a 2-run single before Bartek got back to back outs to end the inning.

Peoria took advantage of another Swing error to get one run back in the seventh. With two outs, Samson hit a grounder to shortstop but first baseman Tim Dorn dropped the throw allowing Samson to reach second. Matt Camp drew a walk and Jonathon Mota singled Samson home to cut the lead to 8-5.

Renshaw allowed five runs on eight hits over a season low three innings of work. He struck out one, hit one and walked one while allowing his first two road home runs of the season. Bartek allowed three runs on five hits and a walk in three innings of work while striking out three. Matt Maradeo allowed one hit in his one scoreless inning of work. Alex Maestri retired the Swing in order in his lone inning of work.

Gorman’s Pub Player of the Game: Ryne Malone & Jonathon Mota (2B) – The two Chiefs second baseman combined to go 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Malone started the game with a single and scored in the first. He singled in the second and left the game in the fifth. Mota drove home a run in the 7th in his only at-bat.

Josh Donaldson and Jonathan Wyatt both had big clutch hits in the game, twice tying the score, but the Hawks could not match the Dust Devils three-run ninth inning. Tri City starter Cory Riordan held the Hawks scoreless into the 7th inning until Josh Donaldson's two-out two-run home run tied the score.
