The Mesa game is ridiculous. Mesa was down 9-1 early before chipping away and scoring 5 in the top of the 9th to take a 12-11 lead. Then, they promptly blew the lead and it's now 12-12 after 9. Darwin Barney is 4/4 with 2 doubles, Luis Bautista has a solo HR and Nelson Perez has a 2-run HR.

Did anyone else watch the championship game when the announcer was like "this guy has the 'it' factor. Just like Derek Jeter. He's got it all going for him and he's a winner" yada, yada. I looked at his stats and wasn't terribly impressed but is he the real deal? Did Wilken get a steal for him in the 4th?

He's a 21 year old college player at Mesa. I'd like to see him perform two levels higher before getting excited about him.

No, i agree with you. This was a few days after the cubs drafted him, when an announcer at the championship game had a man crush on him. Just wondering if I was missing something about him. I am by no means comparing him to jeter, just the schmuck at espn.

Yeah, I've heard he's considered Mr. Intangibles too. I don't think that's going to keep him from being a huge reach in the 4th though. Joe Simokaitis was Mr. Intangibles for Nebraska, unfortunately that didn't make him any good at the plate.

Dylan Johnston and Josh Donaldson have solo HRs for Boise and they lead it 10-4. Rough outing for Cabrera: 4+ IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 4 K/0 BB.

Yay for Donaldson.

Peoria lost to Quad Cities 8-5. Carrillo went 5 allowing 5 hits, 3 ER's, 1 K/4 BB's. Maradeo was charged with the loss as he gave up two runs in the 7th. Offensivley, Lalli and Schermerhorn each had two hits (one double apiece) and Wellington Castillo drove in two runs as well.

Chris Walker was sent down from Iowa to Daytona.
Demoted TWO levels? Wow.

Not that he's good, but that definitely has to be a shot to the ego.

I think it was just a numbers crunch at Tennessee with Colvin, Fuld, Fox, Cortes all entrenched at AA. Walker did well in 77 AB to start the season at Tennessee.

Ouch, Iowa loses 4-3 in 11. Randy Wells blew a 3-0 Iowa lead in the bottom of the 8th as he gave up 3 runs in that inning. Geoff Jones was only able to record one out in the 11th as he took the loss, giving up two hits, a BB, and the winning run. Petrick pitched two scoreless innings, giving up three hits, one walk, and struck out 1. Cory Bailey did a great job after Cherry's 1st inning as he threw 5 innings of shutout ball.

EPatt and Kroeger each homered. Murton and Cedeno each went 0/5.

I remember Walker doing well to start the season, which is why I was surprised he was sent down that far. I suspect you're right about the reasoning though; I get the feeling that the Cubs see Walker as organizational filler rather than a major league prospect, so he's a spare part that goes wherever there's an opening. And Pie getting sent back down to Iowa takes the opening away there.

Donaldson doesn't surprise me since he's played college ball in what is realistically AA.

Ouch, Boise gave up 6 runs between the 5th and 6th and it's now 10-10.

Boise back ahead 12-10. Not only did they give up 6 runs in that inning, it included:

4 errors, 1 balk, 2 hit batsmen, 2 singles, 1 double, 1 triple....

and to top it all off, all of that but one error came with TWO OUTS!!

ok, now it's 13-13 after the Hawks second balk of the night...this time with a runner on 3rd. Tom Beyers ejected for arguing the call...I watched the replay three times and didn't see anything....

Can we get a report on the coaches' health after that?

rundle = harvey part II

Logjams at the lower levels aren't uncommon. I read in a recent newspaper article on the State College Spikes that they have 33 players on their roster, and their manager (Turner Ward) is rotating them to give them all time. Sounds great in theory, except you're probably taking away time from legitimate prospects for guys who are just organizational roster-filler.

Both Rundle and Andersen have awful K-rates but at least these guys work the count. They definitely have a better approach at the plate than Ryan Harvey, hopefully it can pay off down the road.
