I seem to remember the Kenny Lofton factor in '03 being debunked early in the '04 campaign or before.

Anyone else remember the logic of this?

I wish search was working as I've been through this too many times...

The runs per game was about the same before and after Lofton.

the distribution of runs was about the same.

The difference in 2003 was that Prior & Wood had absolutely unreal second halves to fuel the push.

That's what I remember.

Thanks Tim.

yeah... Prior and Wood were successful because they had Lofton in the clubhouse though!

Didn't we play weaker competition after Lofton arrived as well?

Hendry and them are familiar with Lofton, they know how he is on the field and in the clubhouse. You'll never know for sure but if they don't go after him, it might be a reason why as far as him being an extremely selfish teammate.

What I wanted the Cubs to do was to trade Moises Alou to San Francisco, where his daddy was, and let Lofton play LF. Lofton and Walker would have made a nice top of the order combination, in regards to OBP, something they were severely lacking. They probably could have gotten a decent package for Moises.

Funny, that year I wanted to trade Moises to SF and sign Vlad. ;)

Well yeah. You weren't the only one. Move Sammy to LF, put Vlad in RF and Lofton was insurance for Patterson. Done.

Same story the next year with Beltran.
